1. I know that data recovery services exist, and that they are expensive.

2. This is a tragedy. But with the costs of external hard drives and backup services going down, put the word out as a warning to back up your shit. It's annoying, but ask anyone who has had something like this happen on their watch, and you'll quickly see the value.

Believe you me I know how you feel bro...I have had 5 hard drives crash on me and recovering the data from a dead drive that won't even power up sucks even harder. But at the same time sometimes its good to start out with a clean slate and all that and sometimes what you create after destruction leads to a whole new beginning with some overly surprising results. To let your talent just slip into the abyss over one disaster seems pointless though I feel your pain, the whole matter is no matter what you lose now the one thing you can NEVER lose is your creativity. By allowing this to affect you so harshly and in this way, you letting yourself give up the ghost. Sure there is no way to replace that work, but I know your a hell of a lot stronger then this my friend and it pains me to see you just up and walk away. Each and every person who has watched you here on FA has shed precious memories with you your art and your music, the one thing you can count on is they will always be there to back you up no matter what may come. Your talents FAR outweigh any disaster and your spirit is a lot stronger then you think bro...its all a matter of starting from scratch and having the courage to tell yourself..."I CAN do this I am BETTER then this" then sitting down and really thinking, how can I make something out of all this and what lesson have I learned, me I realised I had to back up my works and I went to the local dollar store where they sold 2 for 1 blank DVD's and burned all my important info music and data, in the end I was able to save my precious memories my blood sweat and tears so that even when my last hard drive went (Power surge from a major thunderstorm) I had my data on backup for when I got my NEW computer and hard drive up and running smoothly.

Yeah this is a lot to say on just one thing I know and its pretty damn long winded but bro...your a HELL of a lot better then this malarky and you KNOW it, don't focus on what you have lost otherwise you will never move on as an artist. Instead focus on a WHOLE NEW begining for yourself and plan your next moves carefully....its like a game of chess, never make your move till you know for sure its what you want to do. Think carefully before moving that chess piece for your actions define you and what you do will have consequences that can be dire or clever. Me thinks you should not focus on this situation you have here and ready yourself for a whole new game...

Till then bro you know you have my support on what you do...but think carefully about what your going to do and how it may affect your ability to create...deep inside you know what to do its just having the courage to know how to do it, its engraved in all artists the will to never give in. Well I said my piece and i will leave the rest up to you, when you read this really think about who you are as an artist and think carefully if what you are doing is truly the right choice.
