That really bothers me since it happened to my aunts husbend after many years of service at the car lot. He ended up with cancer and they just dropped him.

I would recommend speaking to someone depending on the state it might not be but most states do not allow termination due to illness specially if the proper documents were being provided

I had lost my job that way once and was compensated for the wrongful termination. However if they gave you any other "reason" then make sure you provide the documents of your illness being the reason for not being there because some jobs will say one thing but put the "reason" as workperformance or something else to try and sneak around the real reason to avoid any legal action taken against them

Ahh yeah, they had said that it was my 'performance' because I wasn't there even though I had all the documents needed so I am thinking the latter may be the case sadly

Well take it one day at a time, I would recommend still speaking with a labor law attorney or someone from the labor board (usually can be found through contacting your local like 211) let them know that situation they can find you someone to get a consultation with and most of them wont charge unless you win, and they usually make the business cover there expenses at least that is what mine did when it happened to me I was in colorado at the time.
