I've been a little quiet here on FA of late (regardless of the downtime!), so I thought I should let folks know my plans for the next year!
I will be attending two conventions in 2010:-
ConFuzzled 2010, in Manchester, England, with
Stripekazama ; and
EuroFurence 16, in Magdeberg, Germany, with
Fritti
I will be running dealers' den tables at both conventions, and intend to have artwork in the artshows at both, too.
Also, although I will be attending EF16, I won't be on the Furball Run: my plans are to take the overnight ferry from Harwich to Hoek van Holland, arriving at the convention on the Wednesday afternoon. Yes, I'm driving: but I've already got a passenger for the event!
I will also have my fursuit built and ready in time for ConFuzzled, and I'll also be wearing it at EuroFurence. (Actually, it's the main reason why I have to drive - my suit has a lot of electronics in it, and I don't want to be arrested going through airport security as a suspected terrorist!!!)
I'm also going to say here that, as of next year, I will no longer be accepting commissions beyond those I already have; and those I do currently have I will no longer accept payment for. (So if you have a paying commission with me, it's now a free one!)
The reason? I'm working on two large book projects at the moment, and I've also got a lot of other artwork I'd like to draw in the meantime.
The list of folks I owe commissions or gifts to is as follows:-

You know, I would actually like to see the faces of the airport security guys when the bells go off and they ask you to open your case, and a fursuit of a big fox with a bunch of electronics in it comes out... =~.^=
That, and they tend to carry guns...
But my fursuit has 3 fans, LEDs, push-button switches, about 11 metres of cable and two battery boxes. (Fangs too, but they're not electronic!) Chances are they'd want a closer look at it, and that could spell trouble for it!
*chuckles*
But yes, it would indeed be best to not take any risks with a suit that took so much work and, as I suspect, a whole darn lot of money as well!
It's also still in the construction stage at the moment. The feet are ready, and I have all the components to build it, but nothing else is finished just yet. But I'm working on it, and it will definitely be ready before ConFuzzled!!
And you're right: I'm not going to be taking any risks with it!!
I'm really impressed you can build stuff like that, though! I'm not too bad with my hands either, but I kind of have the idea a fursuit would be out of my league, so let alone a fursuit with automated components!
I hope you'll get some good pictures at ConFuzzled to share with us! =^_^=
*grins*
Good decision to not go through airport security with that, too... those guards do indeed tend to not have a too great sense of humor. Come to think of it, neither does the police... so it would probably be a good idea not to wear it when we're driving to Germany next year, either! =~.^=
That, and despite the fact the suit has better visibility than most, I still can't see that well in it...
But you will at least get to see the suit from the boot of my car before we get to EF!
But yeah! I'll still be able to see it in your car, and no doubt I will be very much able to see it on the convention itself as well when you wear it! I can't wait!^^ But since I'll have to, I'll wait anyway =~.^=
one day I'm gonna get ma fursuit, but as I'm EVIL (cute evil!) I will wear it when I'm driving, just so when I overtake people and wind the window down they see a giant dingo/kitsune wave at them as he goes past...as long as mr. pole-isce offwicer doesn't see me, then I run away!
amyyyways, glad to see your still alive and all! I'm tempted to go to a furcon here in aus but the nearest is like 900 miles away )_<
(Mine has electronics and fangs: so they might possibly consider it either a weapon or a bomb without closer inspection!!!)
Actually, I think I could legally ride a motorcycle in mine - the head is built around an open-face bike helmet!! Not that I'd be willing to try it, though!! (The three foot long tail is an issue, as is the fact I can't get the oversized footpaws on the pegs!!)
One of my friends here on FA did drive past a cop in fursuit at one point. And bloody funny it was too...!
I can understand what you mean about the distance between conventions, too! Although I've driven from Devon (England) to Suhl (Germany) and back in my Nissan before, and your car is an even better mile-muncher!! (A bit thirstier, though!!)
yeh it is, but the problem is it's like cruising at 80-90mph and here in aussie land 60mph is the top legal speed limit ><;
they do it for money, cuz they are demerrage(storeage) fee's (about 1.2 gbp a DAY after 14 days) + their fees (couple of hundred pounds) for them to clear it... granted yours would be more the issue "IS IT TICKING!?"
I think I'll be driving to a con around the same time I get my project car on the road...a few years from now!
but yeh, so must save up for a fursuit, partial ofcourse unless I wanna die of heatstroke...
I would just love to see the looks on their faces when they open up the package and find a fursuit...
But seriously, I think you might need a simular layout to me for your fursuit. I've got three heatsink fans in the head - one in each "ear" pulling cool air in, and one in the muzzle blowing warm air back out. Even with a partial suit, I think it would be necessary - especially with how warm it is in Aus!
And unless you know of anyone who builds fursuits over there, you may need to build some of it yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if customs impounded it just for the sheer hell of it!
I never knew the speed limit there was 60mph! It's 70mph here, and on the unrestricted parts of the Autobahn in Germany, my little Nissan March 1.0i was holding at 95mph...
Convention-wise, it's just a pity you couldn't make it to either ConFuzzled or Eurofurence. They're just such great fun - as you'll find out when you make it to one!!
And good luck with the project car!
