yup, I had sympthay for the guy, it just feels like this artist is trying to get notice by being the above title.
It's like those two bints who threw food over the Mona Lisa's protective cover while protesting farmers conditions. I get it, I approve of the cause but for fucks sake pick a better way of protesting rather than damaging/destroyinf items or world culture
I haven't finished reading the article yet, but it's actually sounding more and more to me like an interesting conceptual and political art project. I'm somewhat dubious that it's more than just a way of making a point, and that there is no actual plan to destroy the art. That would be a good way to get many more people to be willing to contribute pieces to the project, too. Whether this safe is actually set up to do this is suspect to me, and even if it is, the art belongs to the owners, so on the one hand they can do whatever they want with it, and on the other, art like that is part of the greater culture, and in a way really belongs to all of us. It also makes me think of the way that art by this relative handful of super famous artists is so valued, and plenty of equally wonderful art made by people who aren't among those rarified elite isn't. This could be seen as a criticism of that system, and of capitalism, which makes it possible.
Like the people throwing things at famous works of art, (Which, note, has not been done to anything unprotected) the effectiveness of this gambit is rather questionable as well. I seriously doubt that the minds of any of the folks in our government , who are clearly determined to put Assange away for life, have a ghost of a chance of being swayed by this. It may cause some people to think about or discuss Assange, but it's as likely to drive people away as to sway them in favor, as with the soup throwers. Theres been a rather thorough attempt at smearing Assange, and it's been pretty effective.
I have to suspect that this is just an attempt at a publicity stunt and bringing more notice to the topic. The artist and the others involved aren't stupid. I'm sure that they know this. This is the first I've heard of this, and I've been following the Assange story from the beginning.
