Alternate title: Hey! I'm charging you for MY idea!!! *ahem*
Now...I'm not naming names for the sake of privacy but I noticed a trend lately...a trend that's really starting to get on my nerves.
Artist: Oh hey! I have a super cool and amazing idea for a piece of artwork.
Me: Mmm'kay.
Artist: It involves one of your characters!
Me: *Sees where this is going but goes along with.* Alright, what's the idea?
Artist: *Describes gorgeous artpiece.*
Me: Well that sounds cool. So what? you want my permission?? go ahead, just show me after and credit me for the character.
Artist: Weeelll.....not quite. I'd like to ask you for money for it.
Me: Wut?
Artist: Yea, even though this is my idea? I want you to commission me for it.
Me: -_-
Like I get it, art is your occupation and you want to make money off of it, I get that....but if it's your idea and not the idea of the commissioner? then why should they have to pay you for it?? just doesn't make sense. It's honestly to the point that the next time an artist comes to me and says "I have an idea with one of your characters in mind." or anything of that nature? I'm just going to say no, this is ludicrous.
