I watched that one. Read that they will release another cours/season in the future. Maomao seems to be like the kind who is quirkily curious about how all medicines work and experiments on herself for that. For some reason I feel like the story could develop towards that she meets someone who is sadistically experimenting on others and she stops their schemes. Part of the show also seems to develop into a bit of a romance. Could imagine that her employer and her end up together.

I do like that you can say without hyperbole that she would rather eat poison than spend more time with Jinshi

He does irritate her a bunch, yeah. I could still imagine that they grow to appreciate each others' quirks.

And also because eating poison is a thing Maomao would do over almost anything else

Not sure if she's a bit of a masochist in that regard or if it's similar to people who like sour and spicy food. She likely finds it somewhat addicting to paralize her tongue from injesting stuff that likely is only mildly poisonous in the sense. Part of her also just wants to find good cures and use toxins for that.

I think it's part of a princess bride style "i'm taking a little poison every day to make myself immune" and then also some enjoyment like talking about how eating blowfish toxin makes her feel tingly

I bet she could get away well with the wicked witch act if someone disturbs her studies. XD
