Okay... Typed out on a secondhand phone.
At the start of March, my computer decided to go
on the fritz. When that happened, I then tried to get
my other computer (running Windows XP) to get back onto the net, but the wireless modem wasn't working.
I tried to get it running by running the program that reinstalls the driver.
BIG MISTAKE.
However, it was a good thing that I had backups
for that, but it looks like the modem is still not
working.
I hate to say it, but, I think that I may have do a factory reset on it to get reconnected to the net.
Wish me luck in that or finding an alternative solution to my problem.

I kinda have a thing for vintage PCs like that, and in fact have a comp that runs XP that I'm holding on to to serve in auxiliary service (extra storage, works with an old flatbed scanner, etc.)...but I'm too afraid to hook onto the net for fear of malware and such. Working on a dedicated emergency backup PC (running at least Win7) for that. All I can do is wish you luck, Wally. Maybe join and hit up your local buy nothing-sell nothing group; you might score a gently-used laptop or PC for free there (they're also good for about anything, computer-related and otherwise).
