lei-lani lost a pretty close nephew of hers this past week and he was a really nice guy, coached hockey teams for many years and there mustve been easily 2,000-3,000 at the wake Friday. i was chatting with the nephew's grandfather and we were talking about Steve (the nephew) and all he'd done for so many people, and he casually said to me, "you know he coached the Kelce brothers right?" and i was like, "i thought they played football, Eagles and Chiefs?" and he said, "yeah but before they played football, they played hockey."

i didnt know this so i thought wow, it might be cool if they show up tonight to honor steve, and Leilani and i were standing around and suddenly yeah we saw these two big BIG guys come in, one 6'6" and the other a little shorter, but no denying it was them.

so Leilani and i didnt want to make a fuss so we went inside and sat down and Leilani was telling me about steve more, and that he was the first baby she ever held when she was 18 years old. She also had an old hockey card of Steve's from his rookie year in the big leagues, and i was thinking "man, the brothers might wanna talk to her." she was really upset by this loss as it was so i said, "why dont you tell them that?"

so she asked me to wait there a minute and before i know it 15-20 minutes passed and she comes back, and shes smiling, "i was talking to Jason about this, and he shared some stories and we were suddenly both crying and hugging each other. Than Travis came over and wanted to say hello and introduce himself and soon we were all crying and hugging"

So i was like, "thats awesome, you needed that, i think."

so.... the rest of the wake is uneventful, there was a short speech by the pastor for the funeral, and we all went out. Leilani was on her way out and Jason stopped her a sec, asked about the rookie card, and i watched him give her his address and phone number on a little slip of paper, and im like "whoa...." then Travis came over and hugged Leilani again, and me just standing there like a dork said, "thanks for coming, you guys", i couldnt really think of anything else to say. :D

so yeah that was actually one of the more eventful funerals i went to. Leilani wrote a letter and sent the card, (and a signed copy of our book Shadows in Light because why the fuck not) out to Jason the next day. so, yeah i hope he likes the card...but thats Leilani for ya, she has a +20 charisma. :D She can talk to anyone.
