I’m serious how do you writers do it
I sit on the computer and write myself a storm and I then check the stats and it turns out to be like 2k words when it feels like i should have written the Bible forward and backwards 3 times over. 6 k seems to be like the most info before I die of having nothing to add to the story
And then I look at the recent stories and I find out that people have written novellas I’m like wtf??? That’s literally so insane how can I be like that
Tell me ur secrets or don’t I honestly want something to chat over

I think a big reason why my first story was so long was that the fetish/sex parts of the story kept feeling like they didn’t fit unless they had a LOT of romantic leadup. If someone starts a story without fetish in the first thousand words, I think it takes a lot of words to make the transition to spice feel natural, especially to an inexperienced writer. It’s even trickier when the writer wants a bit of reluctance between the leads but doesn’t want it to seem like rape or coercion.
I think a lot of writers take their characters they want to ship, stick them in a room together, and just write and write and write, trying to smush them in for a kiss. That’s what Hollywood does tbh.
But that’s just my take. It would explain why you’re so good at keeping things short, given your subject matter. I just wish people who wrote long stories actually took the time to go back and edit the whole thing before posting. I don’t want to read a 16-part drama unless it’s been looked over carefully.
I usually find that I actually tend to start with the idea first before I bring in the characters, I have an idea and then im like what characters do I need to make it happen? Then I just kind of make characters to make the concept a little more interesting to read. It's why I tend to prefer like side characters or originals over main characters, characters with almost no information or just one or two traits are infinitely easier to write and develop than characters with their own growth, character development and feelings
And editing was definitely the hardest part because I was like so close to being done and I just wanted to not do anything anymore, which is why i initially didn't do it at first but then i actually read them and died of cringe and then started doing it.
Though, outside of commissions I never look at the word count itself. Some stories lend themselves to less words, and it's better to fit the story into the narrative rather than trying to fill it with filler to hit a word count you put on yourself.
Oh also, I've had a lot of experience with college papers that need to meet a certain word count, so I learned to add fluff and now I can't stop doing it. It makes my work reports too long lol
Thinking of fulfilling a stories purpose helps a lot.
As has been said dialoge goes a long way for adding space.
TF thrives in thick description. The before, middle, and after of a full TF. Giving the person before, during, and after their TF with the audience to see and feel with goes a long way too.
However, its not the length that matters, its the the content.
