Final Fantasy 10

General
After playing through FF7 and FF8 I debated and eventually decided to play through FF10. I skipped FF9 as it never really clicked with me.
Before starting FF10 I decided I wanted to go all the way to beating Nemesis in the Monster Arena. I do not have the international version or the HD version so no Dark Aeons of Penance. So I had a tedious road ahead of me.
Anyway, before I get to the good I want to get some of the things I didn't like about the game out of the way.
The Sphere Grid, it's not THAT bad in a casual run through the game, but needing to go through most of the Sphere Grid is a chore. Even with the Don Tonberry AP grinding trick it's still tedious to interact with the Sphere Grid with how slow every takes to do. The character icons have to move, you have to use a sphere on every available node, and if you run out of spheres you have to grind for them. Just give me a traditional level up system.
The game as a whole is hallways the game, even before FF13 was panned for that very same issue. That said the visuals are at least nice, even for its age. The characters look nice, the graphics look nice, so that's all good.
The way the weapons and armor work are also kind of annoying. But at least the Sphere Grid makes you powerful enough where this isn't a major issue.
Really though those are primary issues I have with the game as most everything else is pretty good. And yes, I am even okay with Tidus as a character. Yes is a big dofus and is self centered in many ways, but like, at least he's a flawed character and is far from perfect. Plus the way he is works for the story that is being told. Said story being what I can now say being my favorite story in all the FF games I have completed.
Even once the big plot twist is revealed near the end of the game when I thought about it I actually liked it. And I will be honest, the ending as Tidus is fading away, I was legit getting teary eyed.
As for the gameplay I enjoyed it beginning to end. Again it's just a hallway game, but the battle system is fun. It's just the Monster Arena Grind that dragged down the experience. Having to catch 10 of every monster was a huge pain...
Not a whole lot else to say about it. It was a fun experience and I just felt like sharing is all.

I've been meaning to play through FF10, recently picked it up in a Steam sale. Though I need to get through 9 first, since the next 14 expansion is going to be inspired by it.
