Located in Alternity FA-2006, coordinates 75.6 - 188 - 007 - 217.9, the Yh'gen are a spacefaring race in their own right. Their civilization covers twenty planets and seventy-three habitats based on asteroids, dwarf planets, or orbiting stations.
The Yh'gen are anthropomorphic otters, with a resemblance to the Terran-Prime 'Asian small-clawed otter.' Average height for males is 1.83 meters, females 1.80 meters; they are viviparous mammals that bear altricial young which require several years before they are capable of being on their own. Average age of maturity is 20 local years (Terran = 1.0; Yh'gen = 1.4); average length of lifespan is 112.
Yh'gen males and females both have functioning mammaries; this can cause confusion for those encountering them if a Yh'gen is wearing clothing that conceals the genitals. In the Yh'gen language, it is customary to refer to all members of the race as 'she' (hi'); there are variant forms of the pronoun to specify whether the person has a penis (hi'han) or vagina (hi'chev). Mating pairs can stay together for decades, bearing and raising young.
