Red Bull

I had my first Red Bull the other day. You might think "big deal", but to me it is a big deal, because you see... I'm afraid of energy drinks.
Seriously.
I hear about how people will drink them and get HUGE boosts of energy, and they kind of scared. Some of the stories are as such... some people tell me they get jittery when they drink them and can sit still. One friend said she drank one when she was moving and "couldn't move fast enough" as she put it. One friend told me he was doing a driving trip with a bunch of people and it was his turn at the wheel so he drink a Double Jolt and had a coffee to keep him up. His turn ended early though as he ended up shaking and crying because of all the caffeine in his system. o_O
And people drink these on purpose?
~sigh... so there I was the other day at work with about 6 Red Bull under my desk and feeling extremely tired because my kids don't like to sleep. I got the Red Bull for free at a recent game developer conference... and I love free stuff so I filled my bag with them. So yeah... me and the Red Bull... I decided to face my fear and drink one and see if it would keep me from falling face first on to my keyboard.
I cracked it open and... oh god!
It tasted awful! People actually drink this stuff?! And the crazy thing is, it didn't even give me an energy boost. Nothing. I literally felt no extra energy, in fact, I almost fell asleep on the ride home. But I shouldn't have been surprised. I can drink a Coke or Pepsi or any other caffeine drink and go to sleep and not feel anything. My wife on the other hand would be up for hours.
So yeah... energy drinks taste awful, have no effect on me and I'll most likely never drink one again. As for the the other 5 under my desk... I gave them all away.
Tis the season I suppose. ^_^
Do you drink energy drinks?

Do you drink energy drinks?
FA+

I prefer the blue Monster energy drinks. Less sugar, more energy
Pardon me, ma'am, what's that awful stench?
Are we standing near an open trench?
What is this?
Smells like piss.
What is this? This is piss. Piss with ink.
Redline however, is some dangerous crap. I drank a bottle of that before a class and I swear to god I was vibrating.
Also. Red40 and other colors....I think they make me crazy. Because sometimes I can tell after I eat them. like... my concentration goes from squirrellike to gnatlike.
The taste wasn't that awful from what I remember... sorta like lemon-lime with a high iron content...
But I never really seem to get much of an energy boost form any of them...
they dont do much, but i feel like i can go a little bit longer after chugging one.
The piss like a F'ing Waterfall Gawd.

they all seem to have the same 3 flavors in them;
Aspartame (Very toxic stuff actually; amino aids, alkaline, methane, Esters (that can fuck with your DNA!) dipeptide, AND genetically modified variation of E. coli !!!!)
Sour Grass (yeah thats a flavor i fin din them)
Bad fake fruit flavors

so i would rather eat my chocolate covered express beans thank you
I told a mental health counselor that I drank coffee. You'd thought I told I smoked crack from the way she reacted... "OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! You'e gotta be careful when you're drinking coffee!" And to think, she was supposed to help people with mental problems. I can only pray she got help herself.
I have the same "fear of effect" opinion of coffee, though, which I'm sure many people (at least in my profession) would say is nuts.
I mainly drink them if I know I'm behind on stuff and absolutely can't afford to sleep right this instant... I don't very often because my husband freaks out every time I reach for one (he's convinced I'm completely irresponsible and will give myself a heart attack)... also, I follow the directions so... yeah. If I can't recall the last time I recently had one... well, that's when I know it's time to put the art down and get some sleep. XP
Also, Energy Drinks don't work on ppl if they're healthy and have a decent diet, they work better for people who eat a lot of breads and potatoes. And I do love my sammiches. (I keep forgetting to buy food for myself so I end up eating sandwiches for most of the week. DX I try to balance this out by putting a lot of spinach on top of whatever the filling is... )
I was okay with them at first. I even learned that if you chew mint gum beforehand, the drink tastes better. I didn't even drink nearly as much as my friends did. After a while the drink just made me irritable, gave me the shakes and made me sick to my stomach. Even in smaller doses. I switched to just coffee for any time I need a morning boost (hell of a lot cheaper)
The only time I drink energy drinks at all is something like an exam or last minute deadline when I can't afford the luxury of sleep. Even then, It's a hard sell.
Also, If you see any young kids drinking this stuff (and I know I have), slap some sense into them. There is no reason for them to EVER need that much caffeine. Ever.
List of energy drinks that don't taste like bull urine in comparison (keep in mind, where DOES that taurine come from? ;3):
Bawls (most neutral flavour of the group)
Dickens Energy Cider (oft shortened to Dickens Cider, and go say that in the missus' ear while the kids are out ;3)
Some varieties of AMP and Monster
Though, I had some imported Red Bull from Thailand.
It tastes nothing like the North American Red Bull. Instead of bitter, it's very, very sweet. Almost sickeningly sweet.
Perhaps if I scoot on down to my oriental supermarket of choice, I can get some more. :b
He gets on a rant when he hears about people using caffeine to stay awake because that's not real energy. He says caffeine actually puts your body into a form of shock fooling you into thinking you have extra energy but it's fake energy. It only feels like energy at first but it's not natural which is why you hear about people who are affected badly by it.
Caffeine is a drug after all. A legal and mostly safe one but still a drug.
For the record my favorite energy drink is NOS. I've never crashed from NOS.
