Biologically there is a multitude of reasons that mammals (not only humans) are and should be afraid of spiders and this was kinda coded into instinct. By the definition of the word "normal - conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected", not being afraid of spiders is not normal, as it's an atypical reaction to a possible threat. While one can overcome the fear and approach the situation rationally, many cannot, and some (the ones with arachnophobia) are so panicked, that they simply cannot take other response than fright. In other words, it is perfectly normal to not like spiders and even hate them.

Just don't look at the articles if you're bothered by them, as this is a fight you won't win in your lifetime, especially with media nowadays being the source of disinformation and polarisation of opinions, rather than a force to fight it.

You're wrong, it is behavior needed for survival of the species. Many spiders (as well as snakes and reptiles, which is source of hermatophobia) are dangerous to mammals and natural selection promoted individuals with this trait. Having instinctive fear of spiders and snakes made cubs (and human children) less likely to be endangered, and this instinct was later passed to the next generations. When behavioral learning started (in herd and social animals) the adults also teach cubs to avoid dangerous creatures, but it does have a deepr root in instinct.

What you're doing now is being blind to the basic facts, just the same as people who insits that biological sex is "social construct", or people who insist that "Ukraine alwas was and will be Russian", despite all of the historical data we have that it was otherwise.

Here is a writter of an article suggesting people who love spiders to start hate them based on a new movie encouraging people to hate spiders by portraying them "evil man-eating ugly monsters".

Think it is all "instinctive", when such people say "You either hate spiders, or we will prove you you should"?

Not to mention some outlets literally harassing small children who love spiders, by showing comments from people who harass children for such a reason.

You're confusing the meaning of a word normal (which, again, has nothing to do with anyone mental state) with "mentally healthy".

Normal means (as I quoted before) "conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected". If 90% of the population is afraid of spiders and/or thinks them hideous, then that is the norm for that population. If 80% of all mankind were convinced taking a bath will dissolve one's skin - that delusion would be the norm. On the other hand, an extreme example - if 95% of the population are not geniuses, then yes, those remaining 5% are abnormal, because their genius does not conform to the norm. Even though their genius is not a negative thing.

I literally don't know a single person among my friends who does like spiders. They might not be afraid, and certainly not to the verge of arachnophobia (at least not a hard one), but not a single person from the group of about 40 people actually likes them.

I don't have access to actual statistics though, but 50+% people liking spiders? Seems unlikely to me.

And I have barely any arachnophobe among people I know (at least, they are a vast MINORITY).
Just deal with the fact that liking spiders is OK.

And never did I stated it was not. Again, the actual phobia is minority, but having an acute and strongly negative reaction, and not having a pleasant one are two different things.
