In seriousness, I'd suggest cruising the Browse feature at random times of day for a few weeks to see what you can find. I don't think the artist everyone knows and recommends is going to be the best artist there is available every time, and I think lesser-known artists could use your follow, favs, and comments more!

Knowing me I'd probably make the same mistakes I made when I first came to FA and watch people who didn't see me as a friend and it would all come crashing around me again.

Easy, I would watch artist who appeal to my tastes - that could be many things, like an creative art style, imaginative content, well developed characters, sharing the same favorite franchise etc.
Second would be way more tricky, as if you would be new I wouldn't know your tastes. I would need to assume, by the fresh content you've got in your gallery, what your tastes are and I would forward you to some popular artist that works with your themes... but the issue here is, that you probably already know about them.

That's true, even though there's some artists that I'd think of as must-watches for ME, if someone wasn't into, say, illustrative story pieces, or giant dicks, or dragons, or any of the other things I like, they would not be interested!
