RIP Zagreus Sept 2019~June 2nd, 2024
I have not really posted directly about this here outside of my commissions journal so I am going to fill people into what I have been doing for the past couple few months.
I was invited to a clinical trial for treatment of what my cat Zagreus had been diagnosed with, Dry FIP, near the end of March.
The way Dry FIP acts in the version he has, is that it absorbs and eats all of his muscle mass and fat, to make him incredibly anorexic, weak and thin because of the sheer amount of calories the process eats through, and destroys the functioning of organs. Its a lot more complex then I am describing it, please look into it if you're interested.
This has been a long process of over 2 months every day palliative care, feeding, along and fasting him multiple times of day for medications.
I will be honest. I am very exhausted, but I am doing everything I can to make sure I respect the life he had with a very nice memorial to say goodbye with, along with painting my own urn for him.

This has cost a lot and my room mate has been putting it all on a card for us to just, deal with later. I didn't make this post asking for help, but honestly I would take any support I can get at this point.
His daily routine for the past nearly 2 months had been:
3 pills in the morning and night 12h apart, for his treatment (These both needed to be fast for)
3 injections of SubQ fluids a day spread out by 5 hours each
Syringe Fed 1/2 a can of recovery food, 3 times a day
Given steroids twice a day 12h apart
Up until recently a very expensive pet anti-nausea called cerenia.
He had also needed quite a few antibiotics.
He had to deal with multiple Upper respiratory infections and a near yeast infection in his ears at one point during treatment.
He was responding to his FIP medication pretty well for a few weeks of the trial, but suddenly degraded in the past several weeks, and the past week especially.
My vet suspected a resistance to the medication or a resistant strain.
He had just finally gained access and started his first day on new medications and an antibiotic, but his body was already too weak to spend the energy to heal.
Between 4am and 9am on June 2nd, he ended up passing away, likely from a seizure while trying to sleep.
I did everything I could and went above and beyond for him and have no regrets.
He knew we were there for him, we were freshly cleaning him with foam shampoos and pet wipes constantly while he was struggling to clean himself, on top of all of the care above.
We said we loved him and pet him as the last things he got to hear and feel from my room mate and I before we had to go to bed that night.
Here are some of the most memorable pictures I have of him:
