Yeah, it's hard to break out of that, it took me years of literally forcing myself to make artwork to get to the point I am today where I feel like a natural... that took soooo much hard work... but yeah, using red on the canvas is especially soothing to me at this time, and helps get the vehemency out of my system.
Even if you don't share them with anyone, you could try creating artwork for yourself, therapy style. Even completely abstract pieces can be really beneficial.
Interesting, I don't usually paint on a canvas but digital painting is fun, my brain doesn't really get the concept of abstract art but I might try it some day.
