I agree. They are just as much the country of the Rus as Russia itself is. I would go as far as to say that, before Russia was an imperial nation, it was previously known in the dark ages at around the 1100s as Moscovia.
Ukraine also bore the Russia name at one point or another at some point at or around that time, as far as my best guess can go, but it's merely just that - a guess.
Personally, I think the whole war between Russia and Ukraine (the second in eleven years) is a shame. Political chess pieces and pawns in the proverbial game used for what, the sake of one nation getting to stake the claim of copyrighting the Russia name or something? It's weird, and I can't quite fathom that. Yes, I know that politics can't be discussed like it would be in other social media platforms like the formerly named Twitter (X) and the former Facebook (Meta), but that's why those sites have become a cesspool of burnt out brain cells and lost translations -- because of the inevitable truth that shows how politics destroys anything it touches when used for any negative means or to force certain agendas onto populations who are smart enough to think for themselves but not smart enough to capitalize on their electoral powers for the civic duty to be as strong as it was in the last election.
kunYKA, I agree with your statement. Ukrainians should not be subject to hate just because war force them to choose sides under pressure. They, just like any nation, should be allowed the chivalry to defend their native soil from domestic and foreign threats.
