If Miles Was an RPG/D&D NPC
If Miles Bracco, my old and obese espeon character, had a supporting role in an RPG/D&D story...
I could see him playing the role of a soft-spoken shopkeeper, a shy yet smart inventor who makes a living by selling his inventions. The party of protagonists is introduced to Miles the first time they visit his shop, and the espeon greets them warmly, albeit his social awkwardness is easily noticeable. When the conversation switches to his inventions, Miles suddenly becomes more animated and excited. He'll ask the party why they are interested in a particular invention and what they plan to use something for, and this is how Miles learns of the party's grand adventure. If asked whether he would like to join the party, Miles politely declines, citing both his obesity and his old age as two obstacles which he feels would make him unfit for a grand adventure, especially if it'd involve physically fighting.
Miles is more than willing to supply the party with unique tools found nowhere else in the game. Inventions that drill, chop, mine and cook. One particular invention would allow Miles to be remotely involved in the adventuring. That would be a tablet device that allows the party to virtually communicate with Miles from far away. Miles can use his intellect to help translate ancient text, identify odd flora and give advice on how to solve a puzzle, among other things.
Before their first encounter ends, Miles firmly - in a surprisingly serious moment for him - requests that the party do not use his inventions to cause harm to anybody or anything, asking the party to make a promise toward him.
Of course, the party has free reign to do whatever they want with Miles' inventions... including defeating enemies. The inventions are powerful and pack quite the punch.
The deaths occur a great distance from Miles' shop and the town, so Miles shouldn't be aware of anything. But word can spread quickly, pictures can be captured, and lips can be loose...
So if Miles ever learns that the party defied his wishes, the party finds an irate inventor behind the counter should they patronize Miles' place again. Miles is furious! He chastises the party for not using his inventions for their intended purpose, fearful that since his name is on the invention, the dirty deed of death might ultimately come back to him. The party can justify themselves however they choose, like implying that the enemy defeated would have been a massive threat to the whole town; but Miles is hearing none of it, acting far too emotional to think straight. Miles then ends the discussion by accusing the party of committing an even more offensive act (More offensive than killing another person) by "taking advantage of his generosity and genius." No matter what, Miles bans the party from his shop for the rest of the story.
Maaaybe if the party defeats an overarching villain, he might try to forgive you and alleviate the ban... Maybe...
Basically, stay on Miles' good side by keeping the inventions out of battle, and Miles remains an ally to the party.
Or use a powerful invention in battle and hope to the stars that Miles never finds out, because Miles will never accept your service again.

I love this dude, I'd love to share a campaign with him. The problem is finding games and people though...
