Excessive Heat Warning In My Area
Hey y'all there's been a work delay all week and there's gonna' be another for the next week or so. We're gonna' be going through two whole weeks of 105F+ weather (40C+ in heathen units) and I live in a shithole from the 1930's with no insulation. The surface of my tablet is as hot as the sun after maybe 45 minutes of use, and I can't stay in my office very long.
Just a heads-up that there could be a decently-sized delay on comms as I've basically been furloughed by the sun.
In more pleasant news,
pyredaemos,
catcouch, and I have been rolling out lotsa' new prints on the site. Stop on by and check 'em out, I'd definitely appreciate the sales while I can't get much work done: https://supervrealmaidens.com/artist
One of those cooling towels or a cold shower can also help. They get wet with water and help cool you down. Wetting a shirt in a bowl and straining the water out, and whipping it can also work for heat stroke. Though it can kinda tend to get mildewy too with heat + moisture unless left out time to time in uv to disinfect.
Fans or misters/spray bottles can work too.
Heat stroke is nothing to kid about, other than cutting your hair shorter to let more heat leave the body or lighter summer wear, not much you can do without a ac unless you want to put ice cubes /water on your head.
I notice too that even though we live in a dry climate, we've tried doing that "eco friendly rock garden" stuff, and the temperatures were like 110 F / 40 C while when it was watered, the area dropped to a still sweltering but managabler 90 F / 30 C.
Basically whipping the shirt just lets excess moisture get out. Like swinging the shirt like a whip or bat, get it soft and cool and whip it on, and it can be noticably air chilled.
I hear it doesn't work in super humid climates like Florida or southern bogs(?) though(?) and can just get mildewy instead though.
