From what I've been seeing: The for-profit gatekeeping in the US healthcare system may have been delaying treatment.

Putting it together: It appears UVA managed to charge $25,000 for an appointment in which they assessed him, in which they concluded his condition needed immediate treatment. Then another $1,500 for another emergency follow-up appointment. Then demanded proof of medicaid coverage. He wasn't able to provide proof of medicaid eligibility without any notice and while too seriously ill to even leave the house, so UVA informed him that he was being 'uncooperative' and immediately closed his account, knowing he was in a life-threatening condition, and left him to die.

Stories like this happen hundreds of times every day in the US.

It's an interesting thought isn't it? To think of what the fandom would look like without FA.
For all its issues, without FA, I doubt the fandom would be half the size it is today.

And to have him gone like that, yet one another victim of one of the most broken healthcare system in western countries... Yeah it just hurts.

I agree, you can argue about practices to run things being weird at times or even dislike the guy as a person, but what he, and everyone by now involved, brought to life here has changed the fandom IMMENSELY. it is a huge space for furries of all around the world who got in touch with the fandom and/or felt safe here to enjoy a part of the fandom that is looked upon negatively by a lot of people from "outside"

when I learned of the side I hardly heared of the term "furry" and even tho back then I was not technically a furry myself, it has been the community I felt welcome for the first time in quite a while.

sure friends and family will miss him deerly and the plattform and its people owe him a lot for what he did

Dragoneer really did a lot to keep this place going. FurAffinity has served as an online home for so many of us. It's helped bring so many people with similar interests together. Losing Dragoneer hurts. He was an awesome friend.

Reading his journals, it seemed like the medical system was somewhat quick, but what do I know? Either way, he was ill and had to have been for a long time and did not know the severity until it was too late. Its unfortunate.
