Dragoneer and the Future of FA (My Humble Regards)
Now, I know it's a big deal for all FurAffinity users, including long-time users like me, to mourn the loss of
Dragoneer, and I can sincerely sympathize with that. But there is a much more pressing matter that I'm concerned with. It's about the fate of "FurAffinity.net" itself.
With all the talk about the government trying to censor online pornography and the growth of LGBT communities who dabble in the furry fandom, it would be terrible to see one of the biggest online furry hubs be shut down leaving limited alternatives, or other websites that are not as grounded as FA is (or was), that may be liable for said censorship.
And should FA be subject to it, that would really put me at a great disadvantage as much as most people I know would. It would kill one of the biggest common interests I have with most of the friends I've made through this website and just limit my outlets and options for looking for alternative, albeit "mainstream" interests.
Liberating? Maybe. Heartbreaking after spending so many years on the site? I'm afraid so.
Suffice to say, my life wouldn't be the same without FA.
Anyone else share this fear?
FA+

Dragoneer
I trust FA, it will continue to stand no matter what happens because even in the most critical situations the site did not fall and I truly wish with all my heart that they continue the legacy of their creator.
But it will make things a lot more complicated if "FurAffinity" is a registred brand and Dragoneer didn't leave a will - or even worse, didn't leave relatives who will take care.
So in either way a "shut down" would not be because of censorship or whatever, but most likely because IF .. always IF.... IF the only one taking care of Dragoneers heritage is the city/town, they would then own everything Dragoneer left behind, even the page and the brand "FurAffinity". And if the town/city is very conservative or doesn't have any interest in getting on with that matter, it will close down the site instead of looking for someone to take over all of the stuff.
It's part of transparency laws and to help avoid fraud. So far I haven't found any entry anywhere in any country.
"Fur Affinity is © 2005-2024 Frost Dragon Art LLC"
You think that'd be able to be kept there for so long if it weren't true?
But on the other hand: theoretically you could find a Kommanditgesellschaft in Germany (KG) and call it "AG" (Aktiengesellschaft) anywhere. As long as nobody is getting suspicious or whatever, you can get through with that for a looooooong time.
And in general in the EU too: Even if companies/pages are not following the rules, the chances of them getting sued/fined or whatever are still very very slim. And it's even worse in US when it gets to that.
I did not know Dragoneer, but if Admin maintains the same operations style as with Dragoneer, fears of FA being Censored or taken down should not come to pass.
If anything I expect some efforts to be made to get FA to grow. Maybe in some degree like DA. But censored or taken down? This one hopes not. I could see some of the restrictions Dragoneer had for FA relaxed or eliminated. The ones I am thinking of would not be a net good for FA.
We will see.
FurAffinty.... is special to me. I might be on DA and Inkbunny, but FA is me favorite place. I came here as a non-furry, and this site inspired me to actually become one. It is where I developed my interests and kinks and met a bunch of cool people I never would have met I love it here, and I love seeing all the artists who create stuff here. If it went away... I'd have no where to go.
