Another Zootopia 2 Update
Earlier today, D23 held a panel with the director/writer as well as the producer of Zootopia 2. I found the livestream of D23 showing this interview and found out:
- Zootopia 2 takes place immediately after the first Zootopia movie. There's no big time jump between both movies.
- Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman are reprising their roles as Judy and Nick respectively. Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster are new cast members voicing two new characters in Zootopia 2: Gary the pit viper and Nibbles the beaver respectively.
- Zootopia 2 introduces reptiles and fish (Fish appear to be non-sentient, and the Zootopia 2 clip shows they're eaten by marine mammals).
- They planned on introducing reptiles in a sequel since working on Zootopia, which explains why they expressed interest in a sequel back when Zootopia released in theaters during 2016.
- They mentioned Gary is a "highly venomous pit viper", which is the 2nd time this was mentioned at D23. They also mentioned "Nick and Judy will be on his trail in this story and may have to go undercover to new locations." I'm confident that Gary's venom is critical in the story likely that Gary bites someone or more than one, so Nick and Judy have to find him for the antivenom.
- The director/writer stated "Zootopia is just one city on one continent on an entire world of animals." and "We may start hinting at what lies beyond." The sequel could hint more cities when they also haven't introduced birds or primates in the first film. When they expressed interest in a sequel, many critics responded that it wouldn't be a good idea when the first movie didn't leave unanswered questions. The 'unanswered questions' back then may have been why reptiles, birds, and primates weren't in Zootopia, so interest in Zootopia 2 was to introduce reptiles. Since I did NOT see birds or primates in the Zootopia 2 poster, clip, or presentation...that could mean this sequel may hint a Zootopia 3 where at least birds or primates are introduced.
- They mentioned that in the first Zootopia movie, Nick and Judy were an "odd couple" and started working together near the end of the film. In this sequel, they still have a lot to figure out about themselves and each other. This could hint that the sequel will show whether Nick and Judy become a couple, just stay as friends, etc.
I don't know whether more will be revealed tomorrow but will be on the lookout. I'm also reviewing the #standwithanimation rally in California on whether animators and artists will receive better pay, working conditions, and NOT be replaced with AI during recent contract negotiations.

This is gonna be exciting! Zootopia is one of my favorite modern Disney movies to this very day and it is so freaking good! I've been wishing for a sequel and now my wishes are answered! I can't wait to see what happens when the trailer is fully made

OP
They're going to make more announcements in the months leading up to the movie's debut, which I also hope includes announcements of early screenings and how we can get access to them.
