does anyone actually ever use the "still life" option on the dropdown menu
that doesn't seem like something that's on FA very often

You can filter for it when browsing. The vast majority of it seems mislabeled, but there is some actual still life in there.

I imagine "Still Life" is considered a recognized art subject, but I'll have to agree I have seen very little of that art form on this site.
I think a lot of the options when uploading are used very rarely. "Skins" and "Handheld" come to mind...
