Some Announcements. Visual Novels, Otherside and art site...
Hello everyone,
I have been a bit more quiet than usual lately, which is because I have mostly been working on learning how to make visual novels lately. But at this point, I have a few announcements to make about those and my other art projects.
Progress on Visual Novels:
Over the past year or so, I have been experimenting quite a bit with the Ren'Py engine and the progress of making visual novels myself. Eventually I announced the development of Leandres Space Prison game. During this time, I learned a lot about the process of game development and it's honestly been a rather humbling experience.
There is so much that goes into making even a simple scene happen. From sprite art, background art, writing the dialogue, writing the code that will make the sprites do the things they are supposed to, writing alternate dialogue paths, making sure it all fits into the larger narrative, making sure the actual game mechanics work properly, sound design, music choice... it's honestly gave me a new perspective on the games I enjoy on a daily basis and how much work has to go into every single step of them. Even in a comparatively simple genre like visual novels.
There are parts of that process which I greatly enjoy, mostly drawing the sprite art, messing around with the code and arranging animations into a scene. But other parts, while interesting to dabble in, I unfortunately don't find as engaging, or otherwise so difficult that I can't really work on them with the efficiency I would like.
I have a bad habit of scope creeping my own projects, by which I mean I often end up adding more and more on top of them, oftentimes faster than I can actually finish the work I already started. And it took a small intervention from a trusted friend to make me admit that to myself. So as a result of that, I ended up making the decision to bring said friend and another mutual of ours on board of this project.
So,
Cosmic-Library,
dragonmaster2653 and I will be reworking the premise of Space Prison into a shared story that involves characters from each of us. Le will still be there as one of the main characters, but now she will be joined by OCs from both of my friends. The two of them have much more experience with the written word than I do, so they will be taking over most of the writing of the novel, while I will provide a general story-direction as well as the art for the project.
It is honestly a great relief for me to get some help on this project. It was getting a lot larger than I had originally anticipated and taking over much more of my creative time than I really wanted it to, to the detriment of other things I liked to work on. The story-reworks will take some time, so there likely won't be many news on this project for quite a while. But I want to assure you that we are working on it in the background.
I don't really want to make more promises about the game at this time though, since I feel like I've already overpromised a bit with the things I have shared so far.
However, getting help on the project gives me some air to get back to other things that are long overdue...
Otherside continuing soon:
The break from my usual comics has been long enough, and I've been itching to get back into them. So with the visual novels requiring a little less of my attention and real life having settled enough around the new job and apartment, I finally feel ready to continue where I left off with Otherside.
I will upload a new page this Sunday, and from there on get back into my old, bi-weekly rhythm of uploads. We'll see if this works out in the long run. But for the time being, that is the plan. I am really excited to be making more pages again and continuing the tale of Matty and her unwitting victims. There are plenty of uncaptured intruders left in the mansion after all...
Other places to find me:
Thus far, I have been using FA exclusively, and I fully intend for it to remain my main site for art and comics. However, recent events have shown that having a back up just in case would be a good idea. Therefore, I have started uploading my comics to my Inkbunny page as well to make sure they remain accessible and I have a way to get in touch in case FA is experiencing problems again in the future.
I have also made a Bluesky account. While I don't think the twitter-style of posting is very suitable for art, especially not sequential art like my comics, I wanted to challenge my prejudices against that style of layout and give it a try. The plan is to post more spontaneous and unfiltered thoughts, as well as sketches, WIPs, unfinished ideas, my video game crush of the week, etc. to Bluesky, while FA and IB will remain my more carefully curated galleries where you will see my more elaborate and finished works.
If you want, pay me a visit on those sites as well:

Thank you very much for reading. I hope you all have a great day!

It's awesome that the comics will pick back up, and we'll get to see more of the Otherside. I've been dying to know how that will turn out for everyone! Though I don't think anyone begrudges you the break, either, or the chance to work on new things. You were cranking comics out at a breakneck pace for quite a long time, after all. And whether the old schedule will work, or you need to find a new one, it's all good!
And I'll definitely have to follow you on Bluesky, too. It's about time I actually started using that place more often. I like the idea of seeing more unfinished works/sketches, and whatever other tidbits you might want to share with us. And while I share your dislike of that particular format for art, maybe you'll find a way to make it work nicely for you, too.
I am very happy to be working on the comics again too. The break and exploration of other things was nice, but ultimately comics and cartoons is what I feel at home with the most. And I am really itching to tell the rest of Mattys story too. As well as all those other characters I introduced.
I appreciate that! It's always more fun with my favourite bunny historian around. I gotta admit, after using it for a few days, that format does have it's upsides. They just aren't in posting art that's supposed to ever be found again. Or that needs descriptions with more than 300 characters... But for sharing some spontaneous thoughts or neat little tidbits you came across and keeping the conversations short and recent, I think it does have some merit. Guess we'll see how it turns out. Exüect screenshots whenever I come across a funny or sexy bit in a game I am playing.
Is why is good to get assistance from others if they are willing to offer it! And with our background discussions on the matter, it just made sense to do it this way. You get to focus on the parts you like, we can help fill the story that much more with fun characters we where going to try and do something on our own with anyway, and all ends up good! :3
Already like the summary we put together (thanks much to the cosmic telo for finally getting that ball rolling ; v ; b ) and will be rather nice being requested a scene and just throwing out some back and forth dialogue on a continual basis, much less stressful and much easier to do that trying to encapsulate entire scenes in words XD should be a grand fun time and I'm happy and honored to have been asked to be a part of it!
As you say, will still be quite a while, but should at least progress now! and that's delightful :3c (also can help with the code stuff if ever that feels like it's losing it's luster, given I do that as well, but that can be discussed later!).
But also deeply excited to see your comic continue, been quite a while as you say, and while the time away makes sense, very much am looking forward to seeing all those antics again ; v ; b big yippy!
And yeah, we can talk more about the details of the coding parts when the time comes, but I know you are more than capable of handling the demands of that engine, and I would appreciate the help where appropriate :D
Fantastic! :3 fheehe, sounds good to me!
