Strawpage Response Post #14: Favorite Pokemon
a year ago
This question came in about 5 days ago, apologies for taking so long to answer it! A combination of general distraction, plus the recent overtaking of FurAffinity, made my response get pushed farther and farther back. I sincerely hope the person who asked this question still sees this and likes my answer!
Now, for the question itself:
What is your favourite pokemon? I'm guessing Gengar, but who knows, could be something else!
My Response
Maaan... that's actually a hard question! The thing is, I don't think I have one singular Pokemon (or Pokemon family) that I've latched onto as THE favorite of mine. I can list off a good number of ones that stand out to me as favorites, though, with some added elaboration for each!
- The Haunter family: As you speculated, Gengar is certainly one of them! The whole line is iconic, and I love their shapes and vibes across the board. Though, of the three, Haunter is my favorite. Ghosts that float are more fun, and detached hands are even neater! (Also a bonus fun fact: I own a figure featuring a very buff anthro Gengar.)
- Lapras: This is certainly one I've grown to love more thanks to my interaction with TF, and my overall TF preferences. Though it's certainly a neat one in the games too! Fun to ride on, a cute shape, and more. I don't recall if I've ever had one on a team, though...
- Froslass: I've always kinda liked Froslass' head-arms & general ghostly floatiness. But I've gained more appreciation for it lately, since I may have a Froslass PokeSona in the works! They may not be coming soon, but they're at least in the pipeline.
- Fuecoco: When the gen 9 starters were first revealed, I was on the Sprigatito train with everyone else. Then I saw the Fuecoco fan art going around, and that won me over to the "head-empty croc" crew. Its evolutions are both cool, but I adore the original lil guy.
- Most water starter Pokemon: I almost always pick the water-type starter for my adventures. It's a reliable type, and I almost always like the water starter design over the others. Gen 9 is a rare exception, as implied above. Special standouts for me include the entire Froakie line, Sobble and ESPECIALLY Inteleon, the entire Popplio line, Totodile and Feraligatr, Mudkip and Swampert (especially the Mega), and the whole Oshawott line.
- Gimmighoul: Another Pokemon I ended up loving within a day of its unveiling! It's tiny, it's cute, it's smug, it's apparently speedy... It has a lot going for it. And its evolution, Gholdengo, is ALSO amazing. I love the coin surfboard it uses, I love its proportions and height, and... in a hard-to-describe way, I just love its VIBE.
- The Sandile family: This is another one I just *kinda* liked before, but after giving it a second shot in Pokemon Black 2, I LOVE this line. It can shred through opponents with Moxie, and I'm finding that I just generally love crocodile Pokemon. I may eventually need to play a game with Fuecoco, Totodile, and Sandile all together <3
- Gardevoir: Honestly, if I had to pick one full-blown anthro Pokemon that I love the most, it'd probably be either this or Inteleon. It's an excellent Pokemon in its own right, and... it's just kinda pretty, I suppose. :)
- Miraidon: Yet another I loved within 24 hours of its reveal! Seeing a Pokemon as distinctly robotic as it is, especially with its LED-like eyes, left a strong first impression. Plus, purple is a lovely color, and I love the weird bendy neck thing it has going. Koraidon is cool too, but Miraidon easily beats it.
- Raikou: One that I've come to like, thanks to a Lucky shiny I received in a trade in Pokemon GO. Despite that game making it tough to latch on to individual Pokemon as true teammates like the main games, bringing that shiny Raikou up to Best Buddy status elevated it in my eyes. Plus, it got an absolute banger of a theme in Pokemon Sleep!
And as a little bonus, here are my Pokemon teams I used in various games!
These aren't necessarily favorites, but may let you read into my gameplay/design preferences slightly more. Games are listed in the approximate order I played them. I've at least PLAYED one or more games from each generation, but these are the ones with which I distinctly remember finishing games. All of these teams were never used in PvP, or in any battle facilities.
- Pokemon X: Greninja, Talonflame, Venusaur, Aurorus, Lucario, Xerneas
- Alpha Sapphire: Swampert, Swellow, Gardevoir, Cosplay Pikachu (Pop Star), Hariyama, Metagross
- Moon: Primarina, Midnight Lycanroc, Toucannon, Magnezone, Krookodile, Lunala
- Ultra Sun: Decidueye, Vaporeon, Tyranitar, Mawile, Alolan Raichu, Hawlucha
- Shield: Inteleon, Corviknight, Excadrill, Toxtricity, Orbeetle, Arcanine
- Legends Arceus: Hisuian Samurott, Luxray (shiny!), Torterra (shiny!), Crobat, Golem, Gallade
- Violet: Skeledirge, Pawmot, Azumarill, Glimmora, Honchkrow, Iron Treads
- Black 2: Samurott, Lucario, Krookodile, Sigilyph, Ampharos, Leavanny
Probably a much more wordy answer than you were expecting, anonymous, but what can I say? I wanted to be sure I was thorough. Thanks for your submission! <3
