tldr: it rules, it's stuiffed full of game references beyond just the obvious Nintendo, it's an achievement they'll be talking about in 20 years
It's the real deal, I grew up with these vibes, and it's uncanny how good the games are ad evoking different devlopment phases and genres. My brother and I saved up for a near-launch NES, brought a shoebox full of ones and fives to Video Only, (which is still a chain in the NW )and I recognize lots of influences (Is Night Manor partially based on Elvira for the ST/Amiga?) and lots of cross pollination (Attactics reminds me of Rampart and Gain Ground) The art is fantastic and has a very consistent sense of worldbuilding, with shared characters and settings.

People involved with Spelunky made it, so I been intended to check it out at some point as someone who grew up in this era of games!
It absolutely slays and yes Derek Yu’s prints are alllllll over it
To me it feels like a cross between 8 bit games, 16 bit console games, some arcade vibes (final Fight, Altered Beast, Ghosts and Goblins) , and also Amiga games, definite Speedball/Bitmap Bros vibes

The game came out of nowhere, but god damn is it incredible.
I knew they were working on it mostly because I read lots of rock paper shotgun but I didn’t know when it was coming out until recently

Party House and Attactics are shockingly addictive and they have tons of variants (rank mode, etc) like old Atari games did

been enjoying it so far myself, it's rad and I love starting a new game and going "this is totally influenced by x" or whatever.
The way in Fist Hell that the game’s animation has Altered Beast notes, so great

I randomly played the horror house game it was so fucking good. There's a lot of other games I'm not vibing with but when they hit they hit. I love the stupid Bubble Bobble-esque soccer game too.
