Frustrated with Commission Attempts
From the office of Joy kill:
I’ve been trying to get a commission from an artist I’ve admired for a while now, but every time I try, I end up getting rejected. It’s been discouraging. Either I offer them artistic freedom, and they say they want specific guidelines, or the character I want is "too complicated."
Today, I decided to give it another shot while they were streaming. I thought, "Why not try again?" The first time, I asked them to draw my pony girl character and left it up to them to interpret her however they liked. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem to like that idea at all.
I started wondering, did I do something wrong? This was the third time this year that my ideas have been rejected. So, I whispered to them on the streaming platform, asking if something was off. They told me they needed more specific instructions to avoid any confusion. Fair enough, I thought. So, I followed their request to the letter: I sent them my Sonic OC, gave them clear instructions, and even linked a reference pose.
But then I was told they were rusty at drawing Sonic characters and couldn’t do it. At this point, I was getting really frustrated but kept my cool. I thanked them for the stream, said “peace out,” and left.
Not even a minute later, I received a private message:
“Thanks. Please do not come back to my stream.”
And then I was blocked.
Now I’m left wondering, am I the one at fault here? I didn’t think I was being difficult. I followed their instructions exactly, but it still wasn’t enough. I’ve been a fan of this artist for years, and this whole situation just leaves me feeling confused and rejected. I’m not sure what to do next, except unfollow them and move on.

Used to be a big supporter of this one artist on Twitter/X for several months. Always interacted and shared thier posts around, supported them on Patreon, even did a fan art of thier OC personally and later included them in a commissioned art, and even footed the entire upcharge for their OC's inclusion
But over time, I slowly came to realize how much I was doing for them and they were doing next to nothing in return short of repeated "thank you" messages, and the fact that they claim not to like doing NSFW art but regularly draw thier OC's suffering from various wardrobe malfunctions.
Soon enough, I grew weary of putting myself out there for them and unsubbed from thier Patreon.
They responded by blocking me from thier Patreon, but also every other place we had mutual contact in (Twit, Discord, Bsky, etc) and that's the last I've heard of them.
Moral of the story: Never meet your artist heroes. Especially ones that use cute vixen OC's to draw people into thier clout-chasing trap.
Steer clear of the bad guys!
Artists have always been strange and weird. Musicians, Painters , Digital artists.
I can get that social skills are not always their forte.
Depending on the size of the other person's following they could have worked up a very low tolerance bar for people interested in commissions that don't follow the guidelines they probably have on one of their social pages. And being a big fan doesn't shield you from any ire, so sometimes you will just have to accept you overstepped somewhere and move on, you can still follow if you want but you'll probably always have a sour taste when you see their content pass by
