I feel like the people freaking out over it are the people that are completely unaware of traditional Japanese mythology and Shintoism. Like... it's very standard fare Japanese folklore stuff.
Yeah, same. When I was reading it, I was just thinking “oh, it’s like old myths, but with Pokemon”. Even “hey, this sounds like a Native American myth!” or “this reminds me of that one Inuit story”. Didn’t think much of it at all.
Since 1) All those are parodies of real Japanese folklore and 2) Those were discarded, I think it's not really big deal and I'm just having fun with all the memes and drawings!
As someone who’s a mythology buff, it genuinely didn’t even sound weird to me, just normal myth stuff. I only went “oh yeah” when I saw other people talking about it. Zeus does way worse things in like every other Greek myth.
This is exactly where a lot of people are just facepalming at the whole situation. It's honestly funny to watch the fannon go absolutely nuts over it while the rest of us who knows it's non-canon just watches the mental breakdowns.
(Akin to a cautionary tale of a yokai. Especially since the Typh in the lore is shapeshifting, so it may not even BE a Typhlosion.)
That being said the beta sprites and concept art stuff is actually pretty cool!
But it doesn't change how good Typhlosion is.
BUT THE FANNON IS MAKING IT FAN-CANON SO
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Couldn't be me...
