It's because of a Twitter policy change that prevents users from opting out of having their art used to develop their AI, so people are flocking en masse to Bluesky.

Twitter could already always do whatever they wanted with anything you posted. All they did was add "such as training AI" to the "for clarification" section on the worldwide royalty free non-exclusive liscense to duplicate (use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, publish, transmit, distribute) your content in any and all media/distribution methods (existing and yet to be invented) for any purpose you grant them by agreeing to the TOS.

Twitter stuff. Elon is planning to make it so blocking someone doesnt stop them from viewing your posts. So like the way it works now is if someone blocks you, you wont see anything from their account on your feeds and if you manually go to their profile you cant see anything other than that they blocked you. and if you block someone the same is true except if you go to their profile you get a button that says view posts so you can still manually check their profile while you have them blocked, but otherwise they stay off your feed. With the change if he commits to it im assuming you can manually go to someones profile and see their posts even if they blocked you, you just cant interact. Or its the worst case and blocking someone doesnt stop their posts from ending up in your feed. Though it wasnt difficult getting around being blocked since you could just make an alt account

The other change is that you used to be able to opt out of twitter using your posts to feed their AI Grok, but there was a change in the TOS recently saying users cant opt out anymore so the option will probably be removed soon or changig the setting to no wont do anything. The change goes into effect nov 15th

As everyone else has said, Twitter pissed off even more people with policy changes about AI and block feature. Now that Bluesky isn't invite-only and more people are on it now, folks are far more willing to make the jump and advertise where they can be found.
