October 2024 Writing Update: Ugh... I suck at CPAPs.
Yeah, it's another unpleasant one this month.
The worst part is that I don't really have much of an excuse this time either, this is 90% my bad.
So, you guys remember how last month I said that my September must have sucked for wordcount because of how burnt out I was from the moves? Well, I think I discovered what was fucking up my muse, and it wasn't ONLY stress from moving. Though I'm sure that played a part too.
Early on in October I kind of had a revelation. The harness that holds my CPAP mask onto my face had a loose strap on it thanks to some of the velcro losing its grippiness. It started losing its grip in August but it didn't seem to lose any effectiveness at first, especially since I got so damn many words in August! So instead of fixing it, I just let it sit and ignored it. And surprise surprise, the grippiness continued to fade more and more, and this caused it to gradually lose seal on my face. It still felt like I was getting sufficient pressure to my airways, but in truth I had lost enough effectiveness that my sleep quality crept down once again and the brain fog returned over the course of the month. As always, it crept in so friggin slowly that I didn't realize it until it was so severe that I felt like a walking zombie. And THAT is likely what ruined my September and a good chunk of October.
So yeah, all of this once again is my dumb ass's fault for not taking care of the damn CPAP. Then one of my friends got really sick for the rest of October so I spent a lot of energy taking care of them and doing errands for them. The result is a really sorry October for wordcount too.

❌ -TOTAL WORDS EDITED IN OCTOBER 2024: 81,508 words
Well oof. It's not great, but honestly it could be way worse. I felt so shitty, and missed so many weekend sessions, that actually hitting a 10K total feels impressive to me. I was struggling severely to try to force my brain to work on Hair of the Dog and it refused thanks to the brain fog, so I eventually tried to work on something fun that appealed to my inner goblin, and that turned out to be Arina is All Chunk 12. I still only got a little bit done, but a little bit is far better than nothing. It does mean we sank further behind, missing our quota by 14,396 words. That's gonna turn our last remaining surplus of 2,797 words from last month has evaporated and now turned into a deficit of 11,599 words. Ooof, ouch, owies.
At least I got most of my editing done! Sure I can't call the editing done since I never finished HOTD and thus couldn't edit it, but 81K of editing while brainfogged on shitty sleep is actually pretty respectable. Not having the month be a TOTAL writeoff despite these struggles is pretty cool.
Besides, I have reason to believe that November is gonna be much better! Because not only have I replaced my CPAP mask's harness, but next month is gonna be FICWRIMO!
NOVEMBER 2024 WRITING GOALS
IT'S FICWRIMO TIME MOTHERFUCKERS!
To re-summarize it for those who didn't read last month's journal, November is writing marathon month, though I won't technically call it by the name NaNoWriMo anymore. The org behind the "Official" NaNoWriMo did a fucking dumbass move by coming out in support of AI writing. Which is fucking baffling to me because you'd figure they wouldn't want to let people use a glorified plagiarism machine to cheat the entire fucking point of the marathon. Sorry but pressing a button to have a robot regurgitate someone else's stolen words for you does not count as making your own story in my book, so I will no longer be formally participating in the "Official" NaNo. Instead I'll be participating in FicWriMo, an alternative challenge that's not associated with the drooling shitgibbons behind the nano org.
What's my plan for FicWriMo this year? Gonna shoot for basically the same thing I did last year, which is 50,000 words on my upcoming side story "Granddaughters of Din", which I got a solid 50K on last year too. And just like last year, I'm gonna make that my only primary goal. Also just like last year, I know that I'm getting plenty of time off from work for the holidays too, so I'll probably get plenty of writing even beyond that goal. If you remember last year, I managed to double it and get 100k! Let's try to do that again this month!
-PRIMARY OBJECTIVES-
-The Granddaughters of Din: Expected 50,000 words!
-SECONDARY OBJECTIVES-
-Hair of the Dog Part 2: Still have 9,612 words left to write to reach the 15,000 final total
-The Arinafiction of House Inagaki: Expected 25,000 words
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 5: ANY amount of words
Total Expected Writing Wordcount for November 2024: 50,000-100,000 words
Total Expected Editing Wordcount for November 2024: [b]0[b] words
So! That new addition on the secondary list called "The Arinafiction of House Inagaki" is another commission! It's my friend Hyo, who you may recognize from my "The Assimilation of Hyo" series, with Sedalia turning him into a rubber drone. (That's coincidentally the most faved thing in my entire gallery lol) Hyo loves Arina so much that he wanted to comm a story of him and his entire family being Arinafied and I was happy to oblige. He also asked for a really big chonky story, a massive 25K words which would normally be an entire month's quota, which is my absolute maximum size limit for a commission. I'm going to try and finish it before the end of the year, but ideally I'd love to finish it AND Hair of the Dog also this month on top of Granddaughters. Just like last year, clearing my entire comm queue would free me to work on something fun in December, and hitting 100K would singlehandedly transform my new deficit right back into a surplus again. Hell, it might even be enough to bring me back up to par on my yearly stretch goal, so why not?
Plus, since this writing journal is late, I've actually already gotten started working on Granddaughters for FicWriMo as I've been writing this. Just on Saturday and Sunday of this weekend as of this post I've written almost 15K words already on Granddaughters! Obviously I'm not counting that anywhere on THIS journal since this journal is for October, but I'm taking it as a VERY good sign that my new CPAP mask harness is working and my muse is FINALLY coming back to full strength. I'm well on my way toward the 50K at least, and if I can use my time off work wisely, I very well could be on my way to matching last year's 100K too! Wish me luck!

I did thankfully get a brand new replacement harness for it though.
