But they did an AMAZING job on making the world itself. i just have to mention it everytime i see someone mention avatar. all those other space and sci fi shows show other worlds that are just clones of earth, but in avatar it acually felt like an ALIEN world.
Theworlditself is something completely unique and a hit cultclassic! I think this film will go down with Aliens and Terminator.
The whole "hey I was supposed to infiltrate you, and now i wanna be you" is done to death
The whole "rawr im the military blow it all up!" has been done to death ;P
And i mean.save for the blatant emotional ties between Jack and ahis gal, there was no real reason to give a crap whatsoever about any of the other characters. when the old scientist girl died it was just kinda like... "so what?" They didnt develop the others enough
Plenty of reasonto have emotional attachment to Ripley, she started off pretty much against Jack being their at all but eventually she gotto like himand kind of became almost like a mother (if you remember the scene whith the bulldozers) and her death had two interesting events. Her death and her connection to the tree of souls and the world goddess Eywea (She noticably a theist finding somethingto believe in). Following it galvanized Jack into setting the whole ending in motion, and erupting suchpowerful emotions in hischaracter and the gathering of all the Na'vi to fight the Skypeople.
Norman, lets see he was the egghead, for a while he was,and youcould tell, fustrated at Jack an jelous for being the one to be chosen by he Na'vi. This kind of bumbling nerdy chracter though goes on to fight with the Na'vi (smething he never signed on to do) .
Besides, haven't you ever heard of nostalgia?
Besides it was not the military, it was the Corporation blow everything up. I don't care, its stll a emotional and worthseeing series of cliches. The fall-out bewteen Jack and Neytiri was heart breaking to see I was so engrossed.
2. Sherlock Holmes will win the Oscar for Best Picture.
Reason for #2: Last year, I predicted that "Beowulf" would flop, and "No Country for Old Men", which came out the very next week, would win the Best Picture Oscar. I WAS RIGHT BOTH WAYS.
This year, Avatar's games for the Wii and DSi flopped. To me, that's a sign of history repeating itself.
