Sounds like you're at least aesthetically sloppy, i dig that. fwiw, i'm sloppy practice, precise framework. Most, if not all, VCRs and camcorders have a Super Long Play/Extended Play setting- its the wily Long Play middle speed that sometimes disappears. "But mooooooooooom, i only wanted to record 4 hours, not 6!" lol. its all under-utilized for sure but without anything on cable, what is there to do? oh yeah, RCA vhs-c with a bad tape drive from 1986 with no sleep mode and RF-out only, that would help.
hear from ya over in the notes; looking forward to your hot takes on miniDV- is it digital because of the signal? is it analog because of the tape cassettes? we just don't know!

its a hybrid, but its mostly analog. you wouldn't call a vhs tape digital if it had some video recorded on it from hdmi out converted to composite. its an analog format that's read and wrote digitally, like 1960s computer tape reels and floppy disks.
