I normally don't buy rye bread. In fact, today may be the very first time I ever bought rye bread. But the pickings were slim at the dollar store, and I decided to try something different than my usual go-tos of white, sourdough, or potato bread. That said, after taking a couple bites, my mind was screaming at me that the sandwich needed a slice of tomato (aside from that, it was a simple sandwich of mustard, lettuce, cheese, and bologna). And with every bite, I just kept thinking more and more that a tomato was exactly the thing that the sandwich was missing, and needed. So much so, that I was prompted to come here, and ask if that's just my imagination. Or if anybody who knows better actually feels like tomato belongs on a rye bread sandwich. Because my mind was screaming it so loud, like my taste buds were convinced that the two were made to go together.
