I wouldn't worry about it. Popularity comes and goes, so eventually we'll be done with things like Code Gease and Gundam SEED.

The plus side is that we might get more characters like Kamina and Viral.

My predictions for three of those four "female viewers' top rated (giant robot) shows" are Gundam SEED, Gundam SEED Destiny, and Gundam 00.

And Code Geass.

...... I dunno. Code Geass doesn't reek enough of pretty boy yaoi bait to be counted, I feel. The pretty boys are there... but I just don't really feel it.

Either way... this doesn't really bode well for animation as a business and as a creative conduit.

Have you guys even watched it? It's a heart wretching story. I was in tears at the end. And I never cry at anything. I don't even watch anime regularly or consider myself an anime fan.

... Gunbuster is a great one to marathon, btw. Only 6 episodes.

I'm an anime fan, therefore I got caught up in the Code Geass whirlwind pretty early on in the series' Japanese broadcast lifespan, and stuck with it from beginning to end. It's a great series, but it only really stuck out at me as popular fare, not as something that'll be carved into Japanese animation history for any reason. The only thing really innovative about the series as a whole, IMHO, is its writing, and one particular element of the Knightmare Frame design - the ankle skates that allow it to dance on asphalt like some sort of metallic ballerina-on-ice.

Well. Video games not so much. Case in point: Halo series.
