Blacklist / Tagging

Man i love the idea of a blacklist, if only for the sake of removing hard kinks from frontpage. But were already devolving into tag wars. Already seen some people with some very harsh opinios about requirements for posting, as well as FA is supposedly going to REQUIRE at least three tags per upload in the future. Man, this isnt the site for that, go to e621 if you want a verbose art archive.
I just wanna share my shit without a whole bunch of barriers to do so -> this is exactly why people use twitter/x/bluesky. The uploading interface here is already clunky as shit with a million drop-downs. Im just gonna tag everything with "Anthro Furry Art" as the required 3 tags anyway, unless its kinky shit it really doesnt matter.
Just my two cents.
Feel free to share your opinion, im curious to how others feel about tagging requirements etc. Is it just me thats against high tagging standards, do people not care either way, or are people supportive of it?

FA+

Besides, what's the use of a feature for blacklisting tags if people will post without them? Gotta have it function somehow.
The use for blacklisting for me, is to remove hard kinks, and id 100% agree on any rules that say you MUST tag stuff like gore, death, diapers, scat, farts etc. But past that, eh, just lemme put art up.
Sure you might just use it as a gallery, but artists who upload should have their art be more discoverable. No tags? Might as well be buried. This is at least an attempt to mitigate that.
Well anyway, i for one will be one of those not very many that wont feel like tagging (sometimes, i have moods), if i did id post on e621 after all for the sake of discoverability (although, im scared of posting on e621 entirely because of fear of being reprimanded for not tagging "correctly").
those that do like it think that those that don't will be too loud for much to become of it despite really wanting a good tagging feature not too unlike the blue MSG
I'd like to see it become like IB's tagging system, where it'll recommend existing tags and other users can also suggest tags on uploaded artworks.
PostyBirb also exists to make things easier!
Posty birb is great if you can set it up right, having tagging profiles and such for characters.... ive yet to get there though, and i do keep changing my characters.
Guess tag groups could be used for different characters
That all being said, the idea of requiring tags going forward feels a bit like closing the barn doors after the horses have already gotten out. There is a significant amount of artwork here that has gone un-tagged for literal decades. Calling FA's systems clunky is doing it a little too much service. Though, at least the tagging feature isn't too bad aside from a lack of references to constitute what makes a good tag, just a blank text box and live character limit. The Description box has a lot of powerful options, but only shows you the standard bold, italic, underline, and text alignment. I basically keep https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/441426/ open in a tab at all times in case I need to reference it when writing the descriptions to anything I upload...
I'm getting side-tracked.
My point is that I feel it's a good idea to tag artwork and plan to do so. But it's been an optional thing for so long that it feels a bit like robbing people of their choice to do so to require it now of all times. It'll lead to, like you've pointed out, people doing the bare minimum to satisfy the system instead of trying to max out that character limit with tags that are relevant.
I like the improvement to the tagging system, but if the option to require them or have a minimum required number of them were put to a community vote, I'd vote against it.
As an aside, it'd also be nice if the tags had some consistency. To use Ponyplay as an example tag: "Ponyplay", "Pony_Play", "Pony-play", and "Pony Play" have all been used to refer to ponyplay in works and might produce different results in searches, so you might end up trying individual searches for all variants if you were to search for it. I've been using both "Gray_fur" and "Grey_fur" when tagging my character Ceres, trying to account for the American and English spellings of gray when describing her fur color... and just because I can't help myself but shoot down my own argument and prove myself a massive fucking hypocrite, this lack of consistency has allowed me to tag Cookies_N_Cream_Butt and Mule_That_Looks_Like_A_Donkey on said artwork involving Ceres. Relevant? Technically, yes. But definitely more jokey than serious.
Second-aside: Hang on, while double-checking my tags for this comment, I've just realized that all the tags are lower-case. I was very particular about having them start with capital letters and use capital letters where appropriate... I wonder if the blacklist feature is case-sensitive?
My issue is of course, A: forcing people to tag and B: the insult throwing that comes against people who dont tag. Dont want that toxic part of the e621 community here.
I was more or less agreeing with you on Point A. Sorry for the rambling, I hadn't yet had my medication when I wrote that. Though I also hadn't considered multi-uploads, and it's a very fair point.
And I'll agree with you on the insult throwing. It'd be nice if that didn't exist regarding tags. I'd also like to concur with somewan, it's be nice if FA could implement InkBunny's system of community suggested tags, with the uploader able to approve, deny, blanket-approve, or delete tags. Come to think of it, I think SoFurry also does that.
You literally can't say you're in favor of blacklist's, but refuse to partake in the system yourself.
Plus, you don't even have to interact with any of the drop downs.. you're only required to give a title and rating, such childish behavior front and back.
Thing that nags at me is that it turns Tags into a double-sided blade. As it helps people find your work based on interests, but also now limits overall visibility if any tag you used just happened to be on a bunch of blocklists.
Which risks this cascade of less scrupulous artists purposefully avoiding certain tags to keep front-page visibility up, which leads to attempts to get them to use tags, attempts to bypass them anyway, which would be met with increased aggression and that is how e621 became what it is today. :/
Now if that will actually happen here? I am not completely sure as the collective mindsets of communities do differ in-between various sites. e621 is very much a site about finding what you want quickly and little else compared to others, so it might be a slippery slope argument. Only time can tell.
I dont think people will avoid tags because they might be blacklisted -> the people blacklisting something arent gonna fave/view/comment on your art anyway other than to yell at you. Maybe artists wont tag YCH or REMINDER because im sure a lot of people will blacklist YCH because they get spammed so much.
A lot of people just outright dont tag anyway, or just throw up a collection of maybe 3-5 random ones or nonsense. Or even if someone does tag, chances are theyll miss one someone has blacklisted. Don't get me wrong, personally i dont care about that, the blacklist will still greatly reduce the amount of disagreeable content you see either way, and i dont see it as the uploaders job to "protect" everyone else. I foresee a lot of fighting over this though, finally giving people ammo to use against their fellow furries "Why didnt you tag this specific thing i find disagreeable".
I will say though, id compromise and say extreme kinks should probably be tagged properly, if anything. I think we can all agree that seeing gore, death and scat etc arent high up on everyones comfort level. What those extreme kinks are would be a different conversation too. But i also get the feeling people tag those anyway because theyre aware.
