TBH, been in the fandom for longer than id like to admit, and i can relate to this feeling. Im always down to make new friends and the like, feel free to message me anytime. if i can help or vice versa, id be happy to do so.

imo the best way to get more connected into the fandom is to hop on telegram and go looking for small local groups. You can join the big public furry channels and then ask around for the more regional and local ones, then start asking about local meetups and pop into a few to say hi.

I'm lucky enough to have 3-4 semi-regular meetups within a 60 mile radius of me, and I've met some good people at those (also a whole lot of cringe people, even including some of the meetup organizers). Once you find the people who are capable of being functional adults, they tend to know who else isn't a dysfunctional ball of perpetual drama and it gets easier to find quality friends. Just as long as you can remember that sharing an interest in funny cartoon animals doesn't mean anything other than a single shared interest.

Conventions are also a great way to get connected. If you're lucky enough to have a local one that isn't a huge time and money investment to attend, you can meet some really interesting people by just hanging out and striking up conversations. For the larger conventions that are more of an investment of time, money, and planning, it may be worth waiting until you've got enough friends attending that you'll have people to hang with if you start getting overwhelmed trying to meet new people.

I've found a pretty good niche in the furry fandom on Twitch that's honestly been healing the wound I've had with it for a long while and making me more willing to integrate with it. The Twitch furries, especially the smaller channels in the art sphere, seem like they are all around good beans that stand up for one another and shove each other forward, only to look back and reach a hand out to pull their fellow small channels forward with them.
