Anyone have knowledge with fursuit crafting?
Hey this is probably 100% the wrong crowd to be asking, but a journal never hurt anyone! I'm going to be tackling making my first fullbody fursuit for my lovely partner, hoping to at least have it by August for IFC and maybe April for Anthrohio. If anyone has any knowledge on the craft, please strike some tips in the comments. Any fullsuit tips help greatly! Thanks for the read!
1. If you shave fur, always wear a mask, and make sure to have ventilation, because fur in the lung is pretty bad. If you shave it us also some quality clippers, never save money on those since trust me you rather want clean shavings on the first try, better safe than sorry :(
2. Shave the head fur before stitching it, trust me it makes it so much easier for the machine or for your needle to get through the fabric. It also makes the shaving job less painful.
3. If you want to avoid open spots on the body suit and paws and so on, use zippers on the ends, you can hide those usually pretty well if you leave some fur to cover up. you can also use buttons or anything like that, but zippers worked the best from my experience.
4. On the topic of zippers, do not cheap out and don't get those tiny plastic ones, trust me they cannot handle any stress whatsoever, get the big chonkers, they are a bit more difficult to sew in but trust me it is better than having to replace the thing every once in a while. Talking also from experience.
these are the ones I can think of right now, I hope they can be a bit of an help.
