Happy Mardi Gras! Ft. ramblings and a relevant old story

Happy Mardi Gras to all who celebrate and all who use it as an excuse to get drunk and eat pancakes! :>
So a bit of IRL Feather lore: I've always had a strange upbringing, religion-wise. Technically speaking, my family is Roman Catholic and so am I, though none of us are really practicing, per se. Growing up, we didn't attend church, we didn't abstain from meat on Fridays, and we didn't have a picture of the Pope hanging in our house (though to be fair, I don't know many Catholics in my area who do have portraits of the Pope in their house... maybe that's more of an east coast/European thing?). I do remember that we commemorated Fat Tuesday with pancake dinners, though. Those were always fun. Still, it's weird thinking about how I'm technically Catholic, yet I'm pretty much agnostic in all other regards.
