"We are made to persist."
But the holidays are done.
I went and saw two movies yesterday, as a treat to my Mother for putting up with me for another year. We haven't done anything nice for each other in a while so I thought a break was in order.
So, Sherlock Holmes was very good, in m opinion. Fast paced, mentally stimulating, good twists and turns. Robert Downey Jr. is a delight alongside Jude Law, and while I'm not terribly familiar with the original stories this had a very timely feel to it. i can't help comparing it to "House" a little, which is a significant departure from Sherlock Holmes as you know it but a treat nonetheless.
Avatar was delightful. I really enjoyed it. Visually stimulating, it was an excellent exhibition of the poison that western ideology really is and I don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying that. I found the characters and situations captivating and relate-able, and not everyone is going to think so. It's very unusual for a movie to engage me emotionally in the ways this one did, and if you don't care for it or just want to dismiss it as more of that ridiculous green-movement shit then there's probably something wrong with you.
Just my opinion.
I'll have my arting space cleaned off by the beginning of next week (tuesday at the latest), and hopefully I'll have some new stuff to post with the new year. If anyone can offer me some advice about a scanner with a bed size of 9"x12" at minimum, or point me at a good sheet-fed (I'm considering the Visioneer Road Warrior) please, I'm listening. I'm sick of this glitchy all-in-one, which has died on me like every other all-in-one I've ever had. Sometimes, it seems, versatility isn't a desirable trait >_>
And now for something completely different, a little piece of virally memetic text that isn't really a meme at all, and will ultimately be lost to the ages. I swiped it from
thedresdenbomber because I'm kinda bored and in a snarky mood. Enjoy!

The chief difference between the "Holmes" type characters and everyone else seems to be simply that the really deductive individuals are just paying attention to everything that gets commonly ignored or overlooked.
Remarkable, that.... so many people just don't pay attention to their surroundings. It's amazing what I notice myself by doing that that others are just oblivious to.
My gift isn't for tracking people, in fact other than my ability to find anything in my house or most of my friend's houses (or computers, cars, refrigerators, yards) as long as it hasn't been moved since I last saw it I dunno what practical application my attention to detail serves. There's very, very little that gets by me though; as long as I'm paying attention.
