Remembering Vicky and Xanadu
Just checked out a I got from Vicky Wyman so many years ago where she mentioned just how old Alicia the unicorn empress, Kinomon the Golden Dragon, and Tzu Kai the Kyryn, who was sort-of the main enemy along with his twin sister Tzu Li in the second Xanadu limited series, 'Across Diamond Seas'.
According to her, Alicia was physically thirty-six and emotionally about nineteen, while Tzu Kai and his sister were both twenty-two, but emotionally about twelve each. Which really became a problem when you learn that Kyryn don't use magic like other Xanadan Nobles, they are magic all the way through. And even though Kai and Li were young and occasionally ran out of energy for their magic, they were powerful enough to ignore dragonfire. And to transform Alicia into an alicorn by removing the wings from a griffin pirate who attacked their island and instantly grafting them to her body. As well as granting her enough skill to glide to the ground as she was falling to her death. So near godlike magic power coupled with a twelve-year-old's emotional control and a near total lack of understanding of things like mortality and death. Because Kyryn live for about 10,000 years.
Just checking out my old (and sole) letter I ever got from Vicky Wyman where she mentioned just how

Because Kyryn live for about 10,000 years.
Thankfully they were more mischievous than malicious.
I also like how Vicky idly commented, "Oh, and Kinomon is eighty. He doesn't look it, does he?"
I also once asked her how well Alicia and Kinomon would take it when their short-lived Freeborn and Domestique friends died long before they did. Her answer was "Badly." Fatima the vixen, Alicia's closest friend and confidant, is in her mid-20's. And she'll be gone long before Alicia will. Vicky said that Alicia was going to be devastated when her 'sister' died and it was going to take a long time for her to recover.
I wonder if Alicia ever did completely recover. In a later series set in the Xanadu fanzine, 'Xanadu 2000', set 1000 years after the first three series, we see the inside of the Imperial Palace for several scenes. And in the background of many of them are small statues and wall hangings that depict a vixen like Fatima, often done as if she were dancing. I've often wondered if those were from Alicia's time as a way to remember the first real friend she ever had.

Pretty sure Alicia did. Really wish Xanadu 2000 could have continued.

OP
Did what, recover from losing Fatima? I'd assume she did herself, for the most part, though some of the hurt was always there. I like to think that Alicia became something like an aunt to whatever children and grandchildren Fatima had.
