Couldn't we just once leave her in bed
Let the dry air cut her happy throat
Hide her heart and lose her happy head
>.< I had a horrible shopping experiance today. And at this point in time I don't know what to do about it.
I got $140 in christmas money, almost all of which is gone, cept for the $40 I saved for sending badges, and cigs, and stuff. Anywho what did I get today? Two sketchbooks, a awesome box of gel pens (which wasn't to badly priced) and these really crappy dual tip markers. I got these mainly for the thin tips, so I can try something new. What did it run me? $50.50 D:
But thats not really even my gripe. What I was mainly after in my shopping was new markers cause nearly all of my copics are dead. So as Dick Blicks are fucking lazy ass retards who think saturday is a good day to close at 6-o-freaking clock because you know staying open later on saturday is apperently to dumb of an idea. Lazy fucking artists. Anywho we went to hobby lobby which I hate going to cause the copics have typically been alittle bit more abused. But they where usually rediculously cheaper.
Oh but not anymore, oh no, cause it would be to convienent to make people pay $2.60 something for there child abused markers. Instead they upped the price dramatically.
$6.70 something for ONE, ONE fucking marker. ONE OMG ONE!! And they increased the price on there prisma colors, not by much like there at $3.75 now which is still pretty freaking high for a marker but I would gladly pay it for a freaking copic brush tip marker.
Which at most places they are there around $3-4 bucks a marker which is still aweful but not to bad. But no it's freaking 6 bucks D:
I haven't got to see how much they are at dick blicks cause it's extreamly inconveinent to get there anymore and I believe they where like $5.00 which is pretty aweful.
So prices have increased in markers...Prices have increased in sketchbooks, from $7.00 to $9.00 (which I can work around), prices have increased in ink pens.
So on average a resupplying run is typically $100-200 if not more....
And I don't know what to do, I can't freaking afford this anymore. I hate digital art but it's so inexpensive, but I hate it...and I'm not good at it. I love my trad work but...
I'm going to have to raise my prices, theres no way around it...Which means that I'm going to get less commissions (which I get very few anyway away from cons)
So yeah...I'm very pissed about the whole situation.
It's like no matter what you can't make anything from being a fucking artist, because they'll screw you in the ass. Your supplies will cost almost as much as the picture did, Art funding will continue to be cut making it to where if your in school for art you gotta buy your supplies on your artist part time job waige, ect, ect, ect.
Seriously to those who can't draw, you really really need to be kinder to artists. Because typically we don't make any profit from what we sell, just enough to re-fuel some supplies and be on our way.
To put it this way... An Artist community, mainly like the furry community which is probably one of the only art fanbases to make money in, an artist has to probably take (the typical artist not the 300 bucks for a piece of shit artist) about 10-20 commissions to make enough money to equal a paycheck. Not only is it hard to get this many commissions, its hard to compleate, and really will wear markers down quickly especially if you use particular base markers like cool greys and blacks and stuff. So your pretty much boned.
Anywho I'm done with my ramble I delete this later but I think I'm going to try to get all the artist to go on strike with me :c or perhaps I'll send threatening messages to the head of Dick Blicks, Hobby Lobby, and the individual companies who make such things and tell them there stupid for thinking an artist can afford that shit D:<

dickblick.com Sign up for the mailing list on there and they email you when they are having AWESOME sales. sometimes up to 80% off X3
Btw did you still wanna do that trade? If it's too stressful for ya right now it's no biggie ^^
Sketchbooks in particular I'm picky about, the paper has to be perfectly smooth typically smooth Bristol or card-stock or marker paper, all of which is expensive.
And yes I'm already finished with your, I'm not happy with how the coloring turned out...so I may redo it. I just haven't had a chance to scan it yet. I have to bring over my scanner to my bf's house and I'm not over there often so it may be a few days.
Bristol on the dickblick sight is pretty cheap... Well for me. I live in a tiny town. Everything is farking expensive here XD
Oh cool ^^ Well. Just lemme know what happens ^^ I'm waiting on some paper to arrive so I'll start it soon ^^
and their shipping is always steep. =P
Be glad you dont oil paint. i had no idea how i bought the oil paints i used in college. some of those bastards were like 15 bucks a tube. A FRICKIN TUBE!!
and not those big ass tubes either...
I'm also one of the lucky people who have one of the Dick Blick stores close by, so shippings hardly ever an issue, unless I want letrests which isn't gonna happen :p
And thats exactly what I'm talking about, 15 bucks for a tube 7 bucks for one marker. It's like someones trying to keep the traditionally artistically blessed from making any profit off of something there good at.
I mean yes you can sell trad works at a pretty high price, but you gotta find someone thats willing to pay 100 bucks or more for a painting. :c which isn't always easy.
I dread to even think how much it would cost me to restock supplies. Typically I have to use bristol board but earlier in the year that was increased to £10/$16 just for an A4 one! I wouldn't be so arsed IF THERE WERE MORE THAN TWENTY SHEETS in the damn thing.
Markers have always been ridiculously expensive over here, copics are £4.15/$7ish and tria are even more expensive.
I'm just starting to worry when all my markers are dead and used up I won't have the money to fix them. :c it prolly won't happen but if they keep upping the prices I'll be boned.
Prismas at $5.50 and sale $3.95.
it might just be Canada, but prices have always been high, it's one of the reasons I'm always incresing prices, even just a few dollars every six months. Eventually my talent, supplies and cost of my time will even out.
But I mean they upped it so much. $3.00 or more infact. Theres gotta be somewhere there cheaper I know prices fluxuate due to different places, but they gotta be a reasonable base price somewhere.
If you like the top padded kind or a smaller format that really cuts the price down.
Or I can sell you just some paper or discount it for a trade of some sort.
:)
And check ebay for copics. Much cheaper prices. Oh and about 2x a year Dick Bllick offers 40% off a single item so you could get a set maybe...
I'm sending your pens this week, btw. I'm sorry Christmas ate my sanity/shipping money. ;_;
Sorry but I don't like digital art at all, not only is it overdone it's to easy. There is no mastery of something you can't fuck up.
Ontop of the fact I have none, absolutely no idea how to properly color works on there. And I doubt I'll be figuring it out.
Also if I'm going to pay for a tablet, I will be paying for the laptop tablet so I can take it with me and thats typically a thousand bucks or two
