Snippets, and the writing thereof.

So!
As we all probably know by now, I prefer to upload my commissioned projects with a short little blurb; a 'snippet' of sorts.
Just a saucy little short pseudo-story to add some extra oomph and (if we're lucky) a bit of context to whatever the hell is going on in the image. Sounds good, right? I'm inclined to agree, as everyone seems to enjoy these snippets.
That being said, I've run into a bit of a snag. It's not a new one, but I've been holding on to my comms since October and frankly I'm exhausted over agonizing about it.
I really, really don't want to upload 'em without written smut; feels unsatisfying for everybody involved. I don't want to produce snippets of great length either, since there isn't a lot of payoff for 'em most of the time and - something to consider - most people don't want to or aren't going to read something between 5 to 10k words on a whim, let alone my niche interests.
I've been trying to wake up whatever mojo I need to get these projects up and viewable, but damn if it's just not been all that *fun* lately, trying to find the right moods; times; places; postures; restfulness; fullness; flow state; balance; whatever word I need to write something and feel satisfied with it. Music; liquors; whatever. It's just not what it used to be.
I've been trying as of late to really kickstart things, but it just feels so small and doesn't convey the intensity I think certain images need. I can't be too short about it or it feels unfulfilling or doesn't describe enough; I can't be too long about it or I'll lose interest and - more than likely - the entire point of the snippet in the first place.
I'll admit, I've been a bit hesitant to ask whoever's interested or watching me for feedback, as I've done it a few times before and the general consensus is "more is better," but I'm running out of 'games' and patterns to make up in order to try and make all of this -work-
Most of my time and energy is spent commissioning or correcting commissions, so that's probably part of it. My job is a bit exhausting on the hands, too; you'd think my former job of washing dishes would be a similar situation, but that was more about standing and arm strength. This job is a lot more... carpal-tunnel inducing. But, probably not a direct issue; just something on my mind.
Another thing on my mind as of late is that most of my snippets tend to be, like, 80% buildup or prologue to whatever's going on in the image. It's usually why I don't focus or write about the contents of the image itself; it feels... redundant, somehow. If there weren't an image I'd probably be more thorough.
When I make a snippet, it's usually focused on one of those 'games' or 'themes' or 'patterns'; the way things are formatted, or if it's from the perspective of a character. It's possible I haven't had a lot of fresh patterns to work with lately; or just... fun, or interesting ways of challenging myself.
All this to say is that I tend to overthinking and/or put too much thought into this little hobby - and I'd like to continue doing it!
But, I could use a bit more input.
Specifically, I'm looking for opinions on story length. I -know- most of you want longer, more elaborate stories, but I'm not really all that good at keeping such a thing consistently, both in terms of focusing on a single project and the long-term upkeep of constantly writing up smut.
Do you prefer context? An immediate description of what's going on? A scene with a bit of the former and then describes something after?
Do you actually sit down and commit to reading what I write, or is just something to flip through briefly?
I don't think anything's gonna stop me from overdoing it more often than not, but I'd love to reign my bad habits (90% prologue and 10% action/description; being way too flowery and close to purple prose; etc) and try to get this smut up here to ogle for our mutual viewing pleasure (or displeasure. Still being a bit cagey with a gore commission I've said I'd upload a few times now).
And again, I'd prefer not to upload smut without something fun to accompany it, so "just upload the porn and stop caring" isn't really in the cards. I don't intend to go hog wild on -everything- I upload, of course, but some things I've comm'd I quite like more than others and I'll be damned if I don't give it some extra sauce. @w@
*Edit* Oh! And if you have any stories that you particularly like or stick out in your mind, please link here and let me know; the more consistently I can see what people read and pay attention to, the more I can try to keep a mental template of what 'goal' to hit while writing.

Not sure if this can be helpful or not but I hope this can help you in a few ways.
Oh, and you did remind me, so I've updated the journal: if you have any examples of favorite snippets I've written, feel free to link them, as it helps me get a better vibe of what to shoot for.
I think this has a good vibe for what's it's worth. You mixed in cute and maniacal lewdness together to make it work really well for setting the mood and vibe.
As far as length and balance, I suggest picking some pieces for longer than others for shorter, like 5 shorter to every 1 longer, that way you can take time on one (giving you more growth and practice), and you can take breaks from the longer piece to work on the shorter ones.
Personally I love the context you bring to the images, and it's even helped me to notice things in the picture that I didn't before reading the story (like the detail of what was on the TV in College Bargain- I was a bit too distracted by Goofy to notice initially).
I'm actually planning to start adding short stories to my artworks, partially inspired by you and jorane-aran.
Sometimes the short-versus-long pieces have completely different vibes, I've found. It can be hard to cross-fade one vibe into another. @w@
loved the maid marian snippet for example.
(and i want another maid marian thing, perhaps robin never getting her pregnant enough)
I sit down and commit to reading what you write, though I don't see it as a huge task, and to be honest it's so delectably perverse that it becomes the centerpiece of the enjoyment to me
Here of my favourites of yours in order from most to least: Paws and Claws, Employee Deposit, Cock Rocket, Crosswalk Blowjob, Cave Man
Aye; the story is as much for me as much as it is for everybody else, so it comes from a horny, selfish, indulgent sort of place. It's possible that time or a constant rotation of ideas means that flame doesn't burn for very long, and maybe I'm just having trouble reigniting my long-standing projects now that I've got some routinely incoming commissions.
I've always said I want the image to be the main course and what I write is more of a... gravy; just some flavor to slather on, but I wonder if we're all getting a bit lost in the sauce, sometimes. @w@
It's more that the image and story work together to make each other even better and I value them sort of equally in that relationship, but chalking up my large enjoyment of the story in particular to just sort of a 'me' thing, I think, wouldn't be unreasonable
The muscle analogy is good, though; I've been trying to practice and warm up a little more often than not at all, but the Muses have been taking their sweet time~ ;_;
Anyway, yes, I commit to reading what you write when it tickles my fancy which, if the dates are anything to go by, have been 101 times since 2011. That's the amount of accompanying fics of yours that I have on my Kindle, and those have synced across all my devices over the years.
As for the stylistic concerns, yes, it's heaping plops of purple prose. Not gonna win anything for touching on the human condition, but it is slathered in recklessly hedonistic sexuality, and I love that kinda thing~
Good to see some older choices here; when I think about when I started these snippets, I think about how I was so satisfied with how short 'n sweet they were, so that time frame comes to mind.
The hedonism part is definitely part of the goal, but even now I'm finding it difficult to express that level of big damn horny without some poofy-floofy excess. It'd be nice if I could go back to the way things were, but I feel I've opened up a Pandora's box with story length here. Can't quite shove things back into the box. ;3;
However, Goofish Growth is pretty great and puberty ridden too~
Anyway, best of luck finding the right balance. Cuts can be hard to make, but you gotta make it a dense, fat, lump of sexual writing, every sentence packed to the brim because you won't be able to touch on whatever bit of smell, sight, touch, sound, or taste until you move onto the next subject or image about it.
As far as specifics go, you always do an incredible job being emphatic in your work. It's superb how uninhibited your writing is! It definitely makes your work stand out, there nothing else like it on the entire Internet. When a story is mostly all caps or bold and such then it's definitely going to be a good one!
Everything you've done with your Gatoself has been top tier! Ones that stand out particularly are https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50070495/ , https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37402967/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56109596/ . The overwhelming emotions you're able to convey in your writing are phenomenal!
Speaking of which, you've also done an amazing job with spontaneous orgasms like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/46531251/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59825522/ . You really have a talent for showing characters' bodies and feelings being extreme and overpowering. One neat aspect of that is when you have characters' body parts react independently of the characters, it makes the reactions feel much more visceral.
Another thing you do a spectacular job with is build-up and anticipation. One of your all time greats is the series starting at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43805613/ , which is an excellent example of your doing that well. Another great example is https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43816131/ . It'd be great to see more like that from you!
One unique aspect of your work is how well you do all different kinds of hyperness. One that always comes to mind for that is https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37340602/ . Superb work with the idea of hyper masculinity there! You also write incredible hyper orgasms like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37340696/ . Plus you do hyperness in general very nicely like in https://www.furaffinity.net/view/26477201/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/21902825/ .
Something else it's great to see in your writing is the impact the main event has on other characters or the setting in general. Things like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/54271373/ , https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55941241/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/58037597/ . The events having such an impact on others makes them feel more significant.
Lastly, you do a great job including details from all different senses in your writing, especially auditory and olfactory details. It's always exciting to see how extreme and over-the-top you can go with them! Things like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/58037633/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56012599/ are magnificent! And ones like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/51981604/ really stand out too. Even things like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/14717214/ are great for the sheer attitude!
Thanks again for sharing your commissions and your writing! It's always great to see something new from you, no matter how long it is. Definitely looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!
I do try to reach out and innovate or add some variety to all the hyper goings-on; it's a good way to keep things fresh for me personally without having to write the same thing over and over (while, arguably, still writing some of the same things over and over, just in a different way @w@;)
As a fellow niche kink writer who struggles hard with getting the creativity flowing consistently, I know how tough it is when you feel you HAVE to keep up the quality. Just know that your quality is appreciated!
Aye, part of me does think this is mostly just overthinking, but it's a substantial amount of work to think about rather 'n a few images.
Here's to hopin' I can get back to cookin'. |3
To me, some of my favorites include the Velscoob series of old, Planet Ruiner https://www.furaffinity.net/view/40826358/ , and anything involving preg-based nightmares of the flesh, but my all-time favorite from you remains the first one I saw: Reptite Ayla from Chrono Trigger https://www.furaffinity.net/view/23983610/ . Simple, but exceedingly effective at reading her embrace her hunger to outbreed humanity.
Aye, suffice it to say I still feel pretty strongly that if it's all fiction, there shouldn't be friction; if I can take things further, I probably will. If FA still allowed birth-relevant scenes, I'd probably get pretty nutty with that. Not like that's gonna stop me, mind; it'll just be hosted elsewhere. |3c
I just wish my writing could be produced a little faster, to better show off the art produced by gratefully open-minded artists.
