I don't really like it. The layout has a sleek and interesting design, but the layout's not very conducive to reading stories. There's so much blank space it's going to give my scroll wheel a workout. The icons look nice at least. I wish they kept the old categories in place, as user defined tags make things a lot more disorganized and harder to find the stuff you want. I've seen more than a few stories with absolutely no tags at all. How am I even supposed to know whether or not it's something I'd even want to take a look at?

Overall, the site feels like it's trying too hard to be some sort of furry MySpace, when really I think it should have stayed primarily a story site. It carved out its niche early on and should have stayed focused on that rather than trying to become a little bit of everything. The things I did like about Yiffstar were the ease of use and navigation. SoFurry's kind of a bright and trendy clusterfuck of everything.

Yeah, I agree with you on the MySpace attempt. I mean, some features are nice and it could be cool to see them brought over to a place like here, but not a site that exists, originally, for furry stories. I miss the categories a lot and I keep trying to play with it in hopes of figuring it out and I just can't seem to get used to it.

Oh well, maybe Osfer will cave and bring back some of the older features of Yiffstar...

I made my bread and butter for ten years of my career doing interface design, and if I delivered something like that to a client? They'd have hung me out to dry and never called me back.

The icons are too small, and have conflicting elements in them. The design isn't accessibility-friendly or disability-friendly. The HTML isn't standards-compliant, and it regularly breaks depending on the browser combination. It's a total clusterfuck.

I want a -STORY-ONLY- site back. Making journals first-class objects on an equal footing with creative endeavors is also a dubious decision...

I didn't even think of the technical aspects of it. I didn't realize it was that bad behind the scenes. I do agree, I want my Story Only site back. Journals should be like they are here, just an afterthought.

It's one of those "close but no cigar" things.

I have a great deal of faith and hope that it will be made to not suck, but I actually have a few friends whose only real access to furry stuff is through writing, because of sight impairments, and this is a -massive- step back for them.

It'd be cool for us to have a place of our own too; if I knew I'd get some commentary and interaction, I'd be much more apt to post the things I write. As it stands, I usually just show them off to friends, and have done.

I like the old version better it was sooooooo much easyer to find the storys your looking for but it's not all bad I just wish they would of kept the old layout and just updated the dissine.

The design of this website unfortunately reminds me of the old neopets design from AGES ago...Haha. Other then that I only took a glance at the site and kind of avoided it as compared to yiffstar.com :C I went there for stories as they were easier to find.

Yeah, for some reason I was reminded of the Asian MMORPG Ether Saga when I was on SoFurry...

Also to the journals on first page, It's like...a furry version of twitter! (No offenses intended) though I suggest a page where like...commission openings can be publicly posted :V

To be quite frank I think both the old and new designs are rather lacking, just in slightly different ways.

The unlabelled bits across the top are somewhat unhelpful. Also, I've so far been completely unable to find my watchlist, and the search when I tried to use it basically didn't work.
On the upside it's a bit shinier and more importantly the name is slightly more discreet (could have gone further though)...
Putting music further up the page than stories is a bit of an odd choice too...

Yiffstar was declining anyway, and if it finally does fall out of use, it's no huge loss (the stories will inevitably get cross posted elsewhere or end up in archives, and people will just go to FA)... If things perk up I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Eh, IMO it's ok. The main page is way too cluttered trying to show you stories, pics, music and journals all in one page. When I filtered it to just 1 of those categories, it wasn't so bad. It looks like a decent site, and my username was transferred over to it along with all my stories, so I have no big issues with it.

Yiffstar was my first furry site to register too. Came into the community when my friend gave me yiff from yiffstar and some pics pointed to that site. learnt what a furry was, found fa and the furrysa that then was created with zafur.co.za and here I am today! Yeay!

Well, I like the print view on yiffstar, is much better than having to read the raw .txt file directly.

Seems like every place caters to artists. I really feel we need a writers and readers site. It should be easy to find and publish stories. Easy to read about whatever subject you want to search on but with enough structure that stories are nicely catagorized.

That was Yiffstar.. now.. I gotta find a new site.

Whats your username/site address there now? I was in the middle of reading Half Moon Tribe when they shut down Yiffstar, and I'm damn glad I was watching Keto so I was able to find your stories here! So far, imo, Sofurry SUCKS. I've tried every search term I can think of and can't find any of your stories on it.

At first i did find a bit complicated and i was not shore of how to us all the new stuff (TO MUCH AT THE SAME TIME), but i have getting use to using it and getting about on it is still a bit iffy!!!! But it’s getting there ........................................slowly
But i did like how it was before but that is just me!!! *thinking of the good old days* ( a month ago hehehehe)

I was among the crowd that loudly voiced its disappointment as to how the stories section was handled on SF. Between SF's launch and now, there've been significant improvements already, but I fear quite a few functions will be gone for good. And some of these missing functions are so essential, so basic and fundamental that I still can't fathom how they could be taken away in the first place (I'm especially mourning the story categories and a "full screen" frame to display story text). It's good to hear that I'm not alone in my criticisms, that other writers still see much room for improvement, too. Perhaps our voices will be heard in the long run; there certainly aren't many alternative furry writing sites we can turn to...

Anyway, on YS I favored your Half-Moon Tribe story series. Actually I had planned to write you a comment mail with my thoughts, gripes and raves on the whole ten chapters of text, but I never got to it because my writings always get out of control length-wise (as you can easily see here ^^) and it always takes me ages to write longer texts. But even without said mail you should know that I was much impressed with your creation, or I would never have fave'd the whole series. I just wanted to repeat that here, as I think series faves got lost during the transition from YS to SF. Thanks for sharing your great writings with us!

I'm not personally going to touch SoFurry until Feb. probably. I mean I'll post a story there, but I'm not going to gripe with the system itself. When the months roll by, I may send Osfer a letter. However, I'm technically a nobody in the furry community and I doubt my comments would get anything productive done. =)

I'm touched you like my series so much. I'm always open to chat about it or anything. You're very welcome that I shared them, I'm just glad I have such receptive readers. =) I write to tell a story, but the joy is also in having someone read it, too. I mean, I could write this all down in a notebook and toss it in a trunk and no one would be able to enjoy it. =)

I agree that it's hard to tell whether or not comments that do not report bugs fixing but design changes can affect anything. So, like you, I'm more or less just a silent watcher, hoping for the best.

I kindly disagree with you being a nobody in the community, though. I mean, can see what you mean say and I won't refute you, but at the same time your stories fascinate quite a lot of people. More than a nobody would, definitely! Thanks once more for not tossing them in a trunk! :) Hey, and I might take you up on your chat offer some day, though I'm personally more an email user than an im user.

I'm just not sure me throwing my voice into the fray will cause anything. I'd much rather watch and see how the dust settles. I guess I'm just being neutral in the matter, even if I don't really like SoFurry.

And thanks for the comments about me not being just a random person, but when you look at incredible authors who're very popular, I'm a nobody. =) I mean, I love my fan base but I'm nowhere near anything influential in the fandom.

I think the site is much too busy and i actually preferred the Yiffstar style. The only thing i hated about YS was the Time out factor. The So furry site is too much of a strain on the eye, and where there was (or appeared to be) and equal emphasis on visual art and Writing, I'm seeing that the focus is shifting to The visual. but that's my uninteresting 2 cents

I would say that they rushed the site and did not do enough testing before they put it on there servers. The only thing us small furs can do is just watch and see what becomes of the site.

On a side note it looks like they are using Ms Publisher to make the site and that is why none of there stuff is working right.
