Are there aquatic furries in my oceanpunk setup?

Yes, there are! But then, why not just send them to the bottom of the ocean?

Well, the thing is, in this world, the ocean is made of freshwater. That means shark, orca, and other saltwater-based furries can’t properly do osmosis there. They can breathe underwater for a short time, but not for long—they’d eventually die within minutes. There are surgeries and implants that help them survive, but they’re more like unefficient fixes. They won't die, but over time, they slowly suffocate underwater, as the implants allows them to process freshwater at the cost of reducing the ammount of oxigen they receive, like some kind of artificial osmosis.

As for freshwater furries, they can breathe just fine in that environment, but they can’t handle the extreme pressure of the deep ocean. Plus, there aren’t that many of them. That’s why most of them work on maintaining and repairing submarines and large ships, rather than doing deep-sea missions. They are the most requested underwater engineers, so they have a significantly higher living standard than other workers at the docks.
