unironically a huge fan of bob ross's landscape paintings
loved gerald brom when I was a kid but I havent revisited that in years
Zdzisław Beksiński is an inspiration for the vibes and also a name I never remember off the top of my head so I always sound like buzzfeed calling him that polish artist who does the nightmare landscapes.
genuinely had an intense love/hate relationship with salvador dali's work when I was younger
Ralph Bakshi is... an interesting guy
UMMMM
do storyboarders/directors count because I like 1 of the 2 things patrick mchale has worked on a LOT (otgw)
"Who's a really good artist? Yes you are, yes you are!"
Haha, my obscure pic would be one of the first people I ever commissioned: Ben Fleuter. He does badass monsters (and can do wicked furries too, though he doesn't do that stuff 99% of the time). https://bsky.app/profile/benfleuter.bsky.social
irt comics, cartooning, and illustration leans: sally cruikshank, larry marder, roberta gregory, jim woodring, carter goodrich (i knoww. i know sorry. his new yorker pieces blow my tits clean off), jeff smith, linda barry, a lot of the old greats that almost feel more embarrassing to mention like dan decarlo, will eisner, and bushmiller; gladys parker, jackie ormes, william joyce... i think i have to cut this section here or ill keep goin
in sculpture: nancy grossman, louise bourgeois, louis wain (i really love his cat sculptures more than his illustration work! love them both though), duchamp, orlando dutton
in painting and other """"fine art"""", a distinction i trust anyone knows is goofy: kandinsky, tamara de lempicka, masahiro ito, too many of the fauvists to name, hardy hill, too many neo expressionists from the 80s to name also, and uhhhh lemme throw in viktor tsoi
M.C. Escher has been a favourite of mine my whole life, I find there's something kinda comforting about his work.
I discovered Zdzisław Beksiński a few years ago, there's nothing comforting about his work but he painted some fascinating pieces. I can't believe I hadn't heard of him sooner.
But probably the greatest artist as far as I'm concerned is whoever did the portraits of Elvis and Jesus on black velvet that my grandfather picked up in Tijuana in the 70s. Classy as fuck.
jung gi and since he passed, peter han for drawing
then some american painters ive been liking are naturally leyendecker for great color shapes and expression, nc wyeth for strikingingly distinct value shapes, then walter everett for even harder color shapes
This man does art, music and animation! He also happens to do some of the absolute cleanest and most clever of transitions between frames I have ever seen in my life. I'm also just a sucker for the art style.
Y'all ever hear of Jean Giraud? The guy did crazy surrealist sci-fi that I think you might dig. I read Moebius 3: The Airtight Garage for my pals' book club that was bomb.

His site - https://mcbess.com
One of his recent songs - https://youtu.be/r9iYyqr6ibs?si=9fK3pD5IX8yr8bjp << the transition of scenes in this one when the character starts to "trip" or transform is so fucking good jesus christ.

For Sculpting, I actually really love the quality of this guys work and find this ability absolutely fascinating! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/21433566/
