I don’t mind the notification, or the “ready to start” messages etc.

Personally I like getting updates like that. Sure you have nothing to show yet, but since I know some artists can have a MASSIVE backload or have life things happen a quick "Hey I'm starting on your com" is a nice update.

I don't mind it. If I had to pick between always getting them and never getting them I think I'd lean very slightly toward getting them because it's a nice reminder that the artist hasn't forgotten lol

I honestly prefer it. That at least lets me know when to keep an eye out for any required approvals.

I like the idea of a short message like that if the artist doesn't have an art tracking chart like Trello.

I find it to be nice. Usually a commission is made fairly far out, so knowing the commission is starting to take shape let's you know a general timeline.

That said, the artists I've worked with message me only when they have an outline/draft to show, so I think it's a fairly common pattern that doesn't bother commissionees.

Definitely not annoying. I've never worked with someone who communicated too much. Closest I got was someone who'd message me everyday with an update, waiting for feedback. That went on for about three weeks, but the art was fantastic, so I was happy with their process.

Always good to hear from the artist. Updates are always appreciated.

Communication is always fine with me.

As a commissioner YES YES YES! I value communication as a #1 for art and quality, pricing secondary. It's little messages like that which get me excited that the commission is about to begin. It also feels nice to be kept in the loop.

I don't think I'd necessarily care much for an "I started" (Unless theres a situation where it's been a while since the commission was ordered that is) but I do like some sort of "Here's a WIP!" kind of update! Mainly the "Before I finalize things, how does this concept/sketch look?" sort of WIP update.

I'm sure anyone would like when an artist basically tells them they haven't forgotten about them!

I do like artists who track their work with a board like Trello. A message sounds like a bit much of a bother for the artist.

I love having communication with artists I commission. If I'm just waiting in queue I have no idea whether they're working on my art or just ignoring it. I appreciate being told they started as well as any questions or stages for feedback they want.

yes, i am personally a big fan of status updates of all kinds and i find them quite helpful simply because you know what's going on and what to expect at a given moment in time.

it's absolutely mega important to me at least, esp if the wait is like weeks or a month+, to hear "i've started"; cuz it turns a "who knows" timeframe, like "could still be another 2 weeks out for all I know", into "okay now I'm allowed to start getting excited for it/looking forward to it in the next few days".

any and all updates are good. the more you communicate, the better!

I like knowing if my piece has been started, but I also don't mind getting surprise!finished work too! Both are good for me haha
