Selling Out?

As all things are subject to inflation, sadly, so are my prices. With the raise in my cost of living, commission prices have gone up, see footer below.
Have you ever felt the urge to draw a particular subject, or character, because it gets attention? Or because it's something that's just popular?
I thought on this a bit, and I realize, sometimes the urge to give into it is pretty strong.
Then I thought even more, and decided, being recognized for drawing that stuff leads to only drawing more of that...instead of focusing on what I really want to draw.
Mentally, I equate it to a form of selling out. Leaning toward the consensus to gain popularity or attention. If I want to get recognized, I want it to be for my creations and my artistic style, not because I drew Link or Neytiri, or Krystal...
Does that mean I won't draw these characters?
No, but it does mean I won't make a big deal out of it if I do.
My goal is to improve and find people who admire my art for what it is, not to pander to the masses in order to gain acceptance.

Besides, it's also encouraging the endless cycle of regurgitation and remakes that our popular culture already seems to be stuck in as it is.
