In all of these years, I have never seen such a massive number of messages just vanish in an instant. Sure. I'll occasionally see a couple removed. But this is on the level of dozens. And, come on... a shout from four years ago? Nobody is thinning those out.
Seems to me that some HDD just died or some major algo Rhythm went haywire... or something.
