Am I missing something? Are immigrants who are legal citizens having this issue? Or just the people who are here illegally?

That's actually the problem. It's become so bad that anyone they "suspect" they can just grab and dertain.

They're actually targeting everyone and anyone who gets in their way at all, including US journalists and citizens. It's only worse when they're masked up and grabbing anyone into their unmarked vehicles like the secret police.

They're basically just kidnapping and disappearing anyone who isn't white or isn't speaking English. But also! I do not care if they're undocumented, no human being should be treated the way ICE is treating people. Actually the undocumented people in LA form the backbones of our communities and economy and are 99% of the time people who came here to ESCAPE civil war, gang violence, poverty, and any number of horrors and human rights violations. So, considering the fact that the process of gaining legal citizenship here takes years, and if these people and their families and children waited that long they could very likely be dead before they got here "legally", I say let them stay. That, and no human being is illegal, no-one should be subject to the abuse, terrorism, and civil rights violations that the Rump Gestapo is committing.

People fleeing from other countries due to dangerous circumstances can seek asylum and enter legally through an official port of entry, though. Gaining citizenship does take a while, but that doesn't give people a right to cut in front of others who are looking to obtain legal citizenship, unless they are in actual danger and seek asylum. I feel for the people who want to escape dangerous situations in their countries, but there is a process to do so, and doing it correctly will get them expedited entrance into the country. Sneaking in is not the way to do it, and moving to another country is not a right, it is a privilege.

While also taking jobs and opportunities away from actual citizens, both from people born here and those who attained citizenship the correct way, causing the cost of living to increase due to all that extra strain on local resources.

I understand where you're coming from, but if we all of a sudden have a massive influx of people pouring into the country like we have been, it strains our economy and resources, making life more difficult for those who already live here. You have to think of the consequences of suddenly taking in an influx of millions of people freely pouring into the country. There's a reason we let in a limited number of people each year, because otherwise everything would get overwhelmed. Hospitals, food banks, welfare programs, just to name a few.

ICE violates due process. Full stop. If undocumented immigrants have no right to due process, than all the government has to do is declare that someone is an illegal immigrant and deport them, no due process.

Immigration both legal and illegal is a mess in this country. And the average person protesting in the streets only possesses a layman’s knowledge of how everything works, but as someone who’s parents worked for immigration and myself who was a temporary contractor for DHS, I can speak with some authority on the topic. First thing is that it takes years to become a US citizen and it’s not a straight forward process. People have thorough background checks, and have to take a civic’s exam to become a citizen. Even then you have to pay a lawyer who understand’s US immigration law to file the paperwork which is extensive. Resources for those who come here illegally are even more strained, there’s an enormous backlog with the immigration courts, and only a limited number of judges, lawyer’s, and non-profit groups to be of use to illegal immigrants. Some people have even died before having their day in court, it’s common with how big the backlog is. The immigration system is also rife with fraud, like enormous amounts of it. There are citizens who come from certain other nations who frequently falsify their records to conceal criminal records or less that desirable job skills. There are also certain visa programs which are routinely exploited such as the H1-B visas. H1-B’s are meant for people with specialized skill sets such as they are educated in technology. Most H1-B ‘s I saw were from India and they were all the same. Outwardly impressive with STEM educations and degrees in computer science, mechanical engineering, etc. Problem is there are hundreds if not thousands of people applying for the visa program but once they arrive in the United States they end up working at a mini mart or hotel sending the money back overseas or they try to bring over more of their family which isn’t the purpose of the H1-B visa. Overall the immigration system is screwed up and there’s no way to fix it especially because both political parties exploit the issue for their own gains.
