(FYI I'm updating this journal with links when I find relevant ones. Go to the bottom to sign the petition to repeal as well as to regulate Age Assurance as a fallback)
From the 25th July, new regulation will come into play for the UK's citizens to give data companies forms of ID (bank details, passport, face recognition tech), to gain access to adult-oriented websites.

As of right now, we don't know if FA will be blocked or if we will need to verify our identities before continued use. I have sent a ticket through FA and I'm yet to get a response.
These changes for British citizens are a disaster begging to be released - we don't know if they are entirely safe, if they delete our information or just sell them on to the next company to leech off of. Such a huge gambit on security especially when we've already seen a serious number of breaches, leaks and hacks in the past 5 years alone.
And you know. It's not like our internet and mobile data comes PRE-ENABLED with parental filters.
And don't let the articles fool you by the way - it's not just gonna be for porn sites. It's gonna be for anything *remotely* distasteful. Reddit is one of those sites, as is BlueSky.

Ofcom document citing where and what context these regulations are being used: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets.....n.pdf?v=395445
Some websites have already blocked UK IPs even.
I'm not entirely sure VPNs will be a safe workaround as our "beloved" PM wanted to crack down on those too at some point...
THAT BEING SAID... there is admittance that VPNs are an easy skirt from the BBC themselves.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1k81lj8nvpo
(Proton or Mullvad have been recommended).
However, Cloudflare already shown the means to block VPNs, even if it's for sites that raise more eyebrows. https://www.tomsguide.com/computing.....only-in-the-uk
And here's how it looks on Discord. Mobile has already sent out the update and you cannot view NSFW channels unless you comply with the age verification.

I get the reasoning, but it starts reaching beyond that when childrenless households are affected. When the ENTIRETY of the population has to comply, is this more about data collection than protecting the kids? Think about the amount of surveillance we have already.
Wikipedia/Wikimedia have also challenged the changes this week: https://wikimediafoundation.org/new.....t-regulations/
This doesn't just affect those visiting adult sites, clearly. There's room for blackmail, privacy breaches, and a blow to the communities of the internet. Some smaller sites have already started shutting down since the implementation of this bill, because they cannot afford to comply the way the Act wants them to. Big companies will remain relatively unharmed because they have the means to pay the fines. https://www.blocked.org.uk/sites
Obviously for people working in the adult fields this is a blow to their income, their traffic, their livelihood. I am one such person and don't know where I stand right now. I don't want to give up more info than I have to, I shouldn't need to.
If I'm inactive or (even more) quiet than usual, you know why. Just trying to figure out what to do apart from going for more "general" content in future.
You can still help with with overcoming the current censorship issue with payment processors. Visa and Mastercard are spearheading censorship that dictates what you buy, with guidance by groups like Collective Shout (itch.io and Steam have had their adult games shadowbanned). Fictional content is being interfered with and stifled.
I have another petition here to ask for you all to sign: https://www.change.org/p/tell-maste.....ay?signed=true
You can also message Visa/Mastercard directly with your complaints. Thread here will explain how: https://x.com/BoscosDen/status/1948397583241539667

TL;DR
Go sign this if you're a UK citizen: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903
There's also another open letter to sign regarding regulating Age Assurance: https://action.openrightsgroup.org/.....-age-assurance

1. People are too goddamn lazy to raise their kids correctly and have to call upon the government to do that for them.
2. Someone wants your data for their [nefarious] purposes and wants to push it through “think of the children” BS. I’m more inclined to believe this one.
Given how similar tries in the US have gone, it will likely be backpedaled a bit until they (meaning Congress/Parliament/whathaveyou) find another, more convenient time to move it forward a little more. It isn't the first time and it won’t be the last. Least we can do is tell them to knock it off.
If you don't mind I'd like to link back to this journal in one of my own. Thank you.
Merry fuckin Christmas indeed.
